Whiskers of Fear by tinykidtoo

[raw]
made by tinykidtoo for Ludum Dare 56 (COMPO)

You are a mouse, small and swift. But in this house, you are prey. Hungry predators lurk in every shadow, watching your every move. Scavenge for food to survive, but beware: one wrong step could be your last. Collect food, or starve... or die trying.

I uploaded a web build for convenience's sake, but it lacks volumetric lighting or a main menu. Please use the windows build for the full experience.

Goal: Collect food for your family of mice and escape alive!

Controls:

WASD to move

Space to jump/double jump

Mouse to aim

Left mouse button to throw noisemakers

Left control or c to sneak

Q or E to lean character

F for Gouda Positioning Service (GPS)

ChangeLog: Fixed the cat freezing Fixed lag from the cat rapidly replanning Did another spelling/grammar pass (I am bad at this)

Haha what a brilliant game. I do gotta say it got quite scary, because the cat AI would sometimes quickly rush towards you.

The cats red vision is really good! I was sneaking around and could not see the cat and BAM I start to see the red light around me and I immediately knew there would be no food for the family today.

Good job with the atmosphere and audio!

Pretty neat game with a lot of good models! very diverse environment given the amount of time for the compo! Would be good to know how many pieces of food the player is meant to collect

Amazing game! When the theme came out one of my ideas was something similar (first person while being super small). I ended up going for a much different game idea because I'm not so good at 3D, but I'm glad someone with talent made it, better than I could have made! It looks very good, even on the web build!

Wow that was very impressive for a jam game! The mechanics felt very good and the AI was sufficient to sell the experience. The only thing that didn't seem to work properly was the gouda positioning system which kept leading me to a wall.

I managed to escape wiht the cheese but that cat scared the crap out of me a few times. Even though its huge compared to you its still very easy to lose sight of it and have it jump scare you.

The atmosphere is fantastic, and you did a very good job of selling gross little nooks and crannies that haven't been cleaned in a while, like behind the couch. I also really love the mouse's jump sound effect.

Amazing job! It became really fun once I actually realized the mouse could double jump, and I had the feeling of being chased the entire time by the creepy cat. There were some harrowing moments and clutch jumps, and also some moments of hopelessness as I watched my critter getting deleted by the cat.

That cat was onto me the entire time! NGL the anxiety of being chased by the evil cat kept me coming back for more LOLLL

Genuinely terrifying. I had spotted on bug though, at least on the web version. Pressing both A and W and such would make the player have more speed then you would've. You can fix this by normalizing the input. Great game!

I super suck at platformers, so I couldn't get very far. But I love the world you have created! I could play enough to tell you nailed the horror mood. I just wish there was a super easy mode for me to play so I could get to see more of the game, it is so beautiful! Great job!

Its the best game with a cat as antagonist i played last years)
Textures are very cool. A little bit confusing damage sound, just like the cat breaks mouses glasses or something.

Vibes - sneaking around like in 'Alien Isolation' but from the perspective of a mouse :) Impressive amount of 3D modelling in 48 hours. This can easily become a larger project, just needs the time and work put in.

Well made little game ! The cat AI felt a bit inconsistent and somewhat easy to avoid, but yeah otherwise I had a good time with it.

I don't know how you managed to create so many assets, sounds and a navigation system in the scope of two days. Great game! Not too difficult, but still makes for some tight moments

Jeez the scope of this is incredible! A whole complex environment in the span of 48hrs! Congrats!! And it really makes you feel very tiny :D

Very fun game. The cat was very scary. Didn't realise you could double jump at first but probably just missed where it said that in the controls. Main improvement would be to make it so you can't survive just walking through the cat. There were times it felt like I should be dying but I was somehow surviving. Otherwise very fun though and I kept retrying until I made it out :D. Huge props for making and finishing a 3d game as well, especially one that plays in the browser.
