The Game

The aim of this game is to survive as long as possible against hordes of evil mobs (made of tiny creatures). Explore the map to find friendly companions that can help you out by providing extra fire power!

Controls

Simply use WASD to move. No other keys required.

Development

This is my second entry, after my previous submission for Ludum Dare 53. I tried to implement all the mechanics and functionality of the game on Saturday, and then add the graphics and sounds on Sunday.

It is heavily inspired by games like Vampire Survivors, Brotato.

Graphics

Graphics are something I struggle with when making games, so this time, I decided to go for a very fast and easy hand drawn approach. I would simply use a paint brush to draw a black outline, and then on a layer underneath, fill it in with some random colour.

What Went Well

  • I really like the levels that get generated. I use a simple random walk to make each chunk, and then connect the chunks with a straight line path. This is kind of inspired by how Spelunky does it, albeit a much simplified version.

What Didn't Go Well

  • I originally intended of adding way more weapon types, but ran out of time so had to stick to three in addition to the main gun.

It looks like there is something wrong with your itch.io link. It looks like your profile doesn't have anything published yet. Is your game maybe still set to 'draft'?

It's a hard life being a slime blob.

I like it! Cool random world generation, diverse mobs and powerups. I would have liked it if the powerups stacked so you would be inclined to pick more of them up, or if they ran out (I don't think they currently do?). Also a bit difficult to keep track of score since it insta-resets. But otherwise I really liked it :)

Not bad. The music was a bit repetitive, but I liked the sprites :)

Music is annoying at first, but somehow after a minute or two it became a kind of soundtrack id like to use to)

At first I thought that the powerups were enemies and should be avoided ha ha. I had a lot of fun with this! I agree with @zimonitrome that powerups should stack.
