Yeet them all ! by zoglu

[raw]
made by zoglu for Ludum Dare 56 (COMPO)

You find yourself in a strange, gigantic world full of dangers.
Yet, you remember the old tale of an astronaut, who, having crashed on alien planets multiple times, managed to survive by making friends with tiny, colored creatures, which helped him and fellow astronauts gathering resources from flowers and monsters, eventually rebuilding their ship to fly home.

So, you decide to give it a try. You too, can make friends with weird critters hatching from flowers, and forcefully hurl them on every single obstacle you might encounter ! The critters will love you for being used as weapons.

screen1.png

So, Yeet them all ! (sorry) is a sort of score-attack shoot-em-up, obviously inspired by Pikmin (or The Wonderful 101), playable with a mouse or, better, a touch screen on your mobile phone ! - click briefly to move, - once you've gathered some friends, click and drag in any direction you'd like !

screen2.png

You will encounter crates, land mines and nasty worms. If you yeet a friend to them, it will bounce and maybe hit more obstacles on its way, increasing your score multiplier for this yeet (is that a noun too ?)
Can you get el famoso S-rank on the three levels ?

screen3.png

Once you have a nice trail of small critters following you, your Fever meter will build up when you perform combos. Fill it to start a Fever Time and watch your now invicible friends become killing machines, bouncing even farther !

screen4.png

The game was made with Construct 3 and the sound & music with FL Studio.
I hope you enjoy playing it and yeeting stuff as much as I enjoyed tinkering around this lovely LD theme !

I'm baffled at how much you single-highhandedly made in just 2 days — game feel, sfx, nice funky graphics. It's so polished too, I really liked the entry, specially the graphics and the music — would love to know abt the samples you used. I'm impressed!

@satless thanks a lot for your heartwarming comment ! I used some free Kontakt instruments from their "Komplete Start" bundle (mostly Analog Dreams) and chiptune VSTs (magical8bitplug).

Congratulations your entry is awesome ! The only constructive feedback I can think of is the clic to move feels unresponsive at times. Your game is really good on every metrics.

@arscene thank you for this comment ! I know I could have included keyboard movement too, although I really wanted the game to be playable on mobile as well as on desktop.

Man, you should rate the other projects, it will make your game more visible on the website, this is how the Ludum works. And you're game is just awesome. I mean I can't find much defect to it. It's beautful, easy to learn, fun, accessible (only mouse), polished, AND the audio is not annoying. Dude, your project is one of the best I've seen so far, and it's not visible. It's a shame, make the people come and play it ! The only few things that could have been better is the reactivity of the move after you clicked, and the fact that I WANT MORE LEVELS !!!

Congratulations dude, excellent game.

Oh also... THE FEVER MODE is just great. And that's nice that you don't tell anything about it (if I remember well ^^), because I got positively surprised haha

@dashvirus wow your comment is so nice, I'm so glad you loved so much aspects of the game ! I didn't have the time to play games right after the compo, but I'll be sure to rate and comment some this weekend.

This game was SLICK. Great controls, VFX, and sound design. Lots of moments that made me go "oh that was awesome." Definitely gonna be going back for those S ranks! Very solid compo entry all around.

The gameplay loop is simple but addictive, and I appreciate the effort that went into the design. It’s got a nice balance between challenge and enjoyment. Well done!

This is a really fun and well polished game. It demonstrates an excellent understanding of scope for a solo dev. I like the deliberate clicks for movement as it incentivizes better positioning. One thing I would recommend is having the shoot button be right click or something else. I found myself shooting accidentally while moving.
Also, it doesn't feel like a tiny creatures game.

@sutt00 Thanks ! I didn't think about right click as I wanted to make the game mobile first, but you're right (as weel as the keyboard movement mentioned earlier). What do you think would make the game a better fit for the theme ?

@zoglu A sense of scale works well since I don't immediately relate these designs to tiny creatures. Maybe if the levels were taking place on a object that conveys that? Not sure tbh, it's a difficult problem to solve.
Could also be the crates that make it feel off since I think of crates as larger objects.

@sutt00 Yeah, actually by the end of Saturday I had ideas for mechanics where the creatures could grow together into bigger ones and the game would take place on a larger scale, but it was outside of the scope for this jam. Maybe I could have got this ideas earlier and plan the dev around them !

Really great entry and complete package!

Super satisfying use of sound particularly with the shot bounces and end of level ranking.

Love to see an actual fleshed out scoring system as well.

Sometimes it was a little unclear what was happening, e.g. when enemies were hitting your non-fired critters, just a lot of sounds and stuff firing off at once.

Awesome job!

Great game! The audio and visual feedback for every action is excellent, and the concept is quite amusing.

I played using a mouse, and while I enjoyed the experience, I found that managing multiple actions with just the mouse—like moving by clicking while also needing to click to attack—felt a bit challenging. However, this could just be a personal preference.

Really nice game, only complaint I would have that the movement feels a little bit stiff, maybe being able to make multiple points to move to ahead of time would be nice

Veeeery nice!!! The idea is great and the effects are very polished!

As has been mentioned, having the "Shoot" and "Move" with the same input made it a bit hard sometimes. But that'd be my only nitpick.

Keep up the awesome work! <3

Fun game. The gameplay is good balanced. Pikmin was also on our list of possible inspirations :)

Compo; you have my respect.

The game looks and feels rather polished. What didnt suit me is the aiming direction... but that's due to mouse input rather than touch (therefore understandable).

@xparker you can change the aiming direction in the main menu :)

This was a lot of fun to play! The graphics and music were really impressive, and overall it’s a very solid entry. I think I would have preferred using the keyboard for movement and the mouse for aiming, rather than having two actions on the mouse. However, I can see how this control scheme would work well for touch. Great job!

Such a well made highly polished little game. The art style, the music, the mechanics. I especially liked the uniqueness of ammo being your new found friends

Very interesting and it have some challenge. Hard to read texts on level 1 because need to understand, whats happening and mines are to strong, i think. But if u continue it can be very fun mobile game.

This is straight up 5/5! I absolutely love how polished this game is, you did a fantastic job! The art is so good, all the animations, visual effects, feedbacks, etc. The music and the sound effects are extremely well done. Your attention to details is visible and it pays! I'd love to read a postmortem on your game, what were your ideas, your workflow, what worked and what didn't and in the end how you achieved so much in so little time!

Wow this was fun, nice polish and good play loop. The only issue I had was the music stopped playing after level one. Really nice job on a complete and fun game.

@everyone thank you for your comments !

@f1tzy it's a bug that occurs on Firefox, maybe switch to Chrome for this game ? (btw I'm a Firefox user too)

@crocidb noted, I may write this in the future. I generally manage my time the same way in every jam.
