Mercenary Exorcist by juju

[raw]
made by juju for Ludum Dare 56 (JAM)

Rail shooter created in Unreal Engine 5.

Shoot the little critters to rid the house of their evil presence. Be mindful of your energy, however, as you'll fail if you run out.

Reuploaded on itch.io because the download link apparently wasn't working here.

7/10 (after release) update: - fixed enemies not spawning in several places - fixed shots not firing in the basement level - removed beta control rig for the player AI - removed visible collision boxes for player - fixed aiming reticle

8/10 update: - fixed menu screen - fixed enemies shooting through walls in level 2 - fixed sounds not playing correctly - fixed enemies spawning on top of each other - added particle effects to enemies and shots disappearing

roadmap for 9/10: - fix music (temporarily taken out because it was too loud) - add ability to turn off sound and music - fix saving high score - fix results screen - fix menu screen - add credits screen and proper title - fix aiming reticle yet again (it appears to be off somewhat)

@juju I did, in fact, enjoy. Fun little rail shooter! Sadly it crashed for me before going up the stairs.

Was satisfying to shoot! Part in the basement was a bit slow. Game crashed at the stairs. A second enemy type would be cool!

Nice rail shooter. I liked the sound effects.
The constant slow movement wasn't particularly great. Faster motion with more stops could have been better.
The game also crashed for me before going up the stairs.

Nice little game, a bit slow to my taste and I should mention it crashed at the end (right before getting into stairs going up) but overall it is a fun shooter that feels somewhat satisfying. I wish there was a way to accelerate the whole game to make it more challenging.

The idea is cool, within the jam the game is quite well done! But did not like the fact that there is no development of enemies in the game. Development is only at the locations. Including bullets go through the wall, and when the energy runs out, it goes into the minus. 8/10, but they did a great job!

Haven't played a rail shooter in a while, so was good to experience this again!

Was a good concept, there were a few bugs, but overall I really enjoyed! Good work brother!

Nice level building, but, not the gameplay of my preference. Audio is OK. Would be nice to have some adjusted to pace background music. Anyway, well done!

Nice game, the shooting was fun, i did feel at times that the sequence between places with no monsters to shoot was too long and the game was too slow/easy in general - but i also play shooters a lot :)

The UI design has its ingenuity, and it feels very good to shoot the little devils.
But I feel that it is better to have a buffer, for example, an indirect interface.
And it's frustrating not to have a way to move.

I don't see the graphic category in the voting section, but I thought the modeling was pretty nice! One thing though, I didn't get any result screen, the game just closed (I did the basement, then got up toward the staircase and the game just ended).

Anyway, I like me a good ol' rail fps, one of my favorite game has to be Deadspace Extractor on Wii. It could have been a little bit harder, maybe add a "civilian" pop out where you loose point if you shoot/kill them. Overall, it's simple but seems to works flawlessly.

I do realize this was a solo project, but I'm a little disappointed there was nothing else to shoot other than the red guys. The way you travel through the environment and revisit rooms from a different perspective give plenty of opportunity to litter the house with various interactive objects.

I also closed the game by accident when trying to pause.

Pretty good on rails shooter, I like the sound design and the level is nicely modeled. It was a bit too easy, I think the energy mechanic could be less forgiving to the player.

Nice Shooter, game felt responsive and was quite easy to understand and play!

If you keep working on the game it would be great to see stuff like ammunition, different weapons or taking cover be in the game!

Game crashed for me after level 4 or 5, despite that it was fun! keep up the good work!

I love the little goblin noises and the main menu where you shoot to navigate is awesome. While playing I wasn't sure if I was dying or succesfully beating the enemies and moving to the next round, and it wasn't always clear if my shots were damaging the enemies and they just take multiple hits to kill or if I was missing them, so it would be nice if the game gave you more feedback for both of those.

Playing on Linux via Wine!

Or, I guess, not playing; in this case, only a black screen seems to appear :sob:

I guess it's not your fault, I guess I won't be rating your game though; good luck with the rest of the jam!
