Ant Simulation by Suchista

[raw]
made by Suchista for Ludum Dare 56 (JAM)

ants-demo-0.png

Chill with ants and watch them gather food and reproduce. You can mess with their pheromone paths using your mouse.

The HTML5 version is slightly less precise, because it runs at 30FPS, while the native app runs at 60FPS.

Tools used:

  • C language
  • Raylib library
  • Emscripten for compiling to web

Inspired by Pezzza's Work.

The link is marked as "HTML5 (web)", but there is only download link and no browser version available. I am using Mac, so I can only play web or macos builds.

I got lost in this for a while. Just watching the ants move back and forth is really mesmerising. I figured out a good strategy. Focusing on strengthening paths from the spawn to each food and then to eachother got a nice path going. ![Screenshot 2024-10-10 172010.png](///raw/c20/7/z/68774.png)

Nice little simulation, very relaxing to look at. I'm not sure whether the food sources deplete or not, because at some point, the ants just started pathing over them. It's always nice to see a fellow ant enjoyer though ^^. Great job!

Nice simulation. I remember playing Sim Ant when I was int middle school. There's something enjoyable about watching ants. Good job!

I'm really into this. Watching the ants gradually chip away at the apples is incredibly satisfying. It would be cool to have a way to remove pheromone trails to experiment with pathing, or have them expire over time.
That being said, this is nice vibes. Great submission!

It's really cool to see these little ants following one after the other.

What's also really cool is that you can modify the level by modifying the `img/level.png` file (even if it's maybe not done on purpose). I started to make a maze for the ants but I went a little too far in the modding...

I really enjoyed this. Would have loved for there to be a competing colony and bigger map (obviously hard to do in a jam). Digging a tunnel straight through an apple is for some reason hilarious.

There's gotta be food around here somewhere...

Good idea to use the jam to implement such a fun simulation! It's quite mesmerizing to watch the ants do their thing, but also fun to be able to lead them to another path :)
