Fill The Coffers by Lintfordpickle

Fill the Coffers!
The dwarven ale supply is running low, and so to are the coffers! We'll need to go deep into the old mines to fill the accounts to buy more, and the depths of the mines hold dark and scary things. To the mines!

Goal
THe aim of each level is to collect 250 coins. You are the leader of a band of dwarves.
[W], [A], [S], [D] - move the commander
To help you with the task, you can hire new companions who specialize in:
- Melee - an axe dwarf will slash your foes and destroy enemy spawn points.
- Archer - shoóts enemies from afar.
- Diggers - These are drawn to the gold and gems in the walls. Once they are full with gold, you will need to lead them back to the cave entrance to sell it.
At the entrance to the cave you can hire new recruits for a fee.
Tips
Your dwarves will follow the commander until they see something they can either attack or dig. In that case they will run towards the thing they want.
If the distance to the comander becomes too great, they will retreat back.
melee units will rally in front of the commander. Diggers and archers behind.
The unit health is shown as little red hearts on the units, and the amount of gold being carried is shown in yellow:

- Once a dwarf is carring the maxium amount they can, they will stop digging just follow the commander.
- Once within range, digger dwarves will go and drop the gold off at the entrance:

Changelog:
- Fixed a bug in calculating coordinates from tile index
- melee units can now navigate to enemy spawners
- diggers can now navigate to the entrance to drop money
- Chaned manhatten distance calculations to chebyshev distances
- diggers wonder max 2. squares from commander
- fixed enemy spawners not being destroyed
- goblin archers shoot 50% slower
- melee units have more health
- added more gold to the map (so you can actually finish the level)

But i really like the idea and i think it would be fire if you polished some stuff! ^^
Even though I experienced a few bugs, like walking into walls, and Im not sure if me clicking/building walls was part of the gameplay or it was left by you for testing purposes, but it was still fun.
The soldiers were fighting really well, and that mechanic worked good. I think the only problem I encountered was that miners didn't really mine, they were just walking into my character.
Don't worry my friend, it's still a great game for a jam!
I enjoyed the process of making this game, but the actual gameplay is not really enjoyable. The lack of direct controls of the units make playing this game a pain. But this is why I do the ludum dare, to try new things.
Have fun with the rest of the event.
However, there are some issues that need attention. The game feels a bit buggy, especially with the miner dwarves, who don't seem to mine properly and instead just walk into the commander. I also experienced a few moments of softlocking and the ability to place blocks, which I assume wasn’t intended.
I understand the time constraints of a jam, so I’m not holding these bugs against the game, but I think with a bit more time, fixing these issues and fine-tuning the mechanics would make this a really enjoyable experience. The visual style is great, and the idea is solid—just needs some polishing! Keep it up!
This game have a good potential and you've done a good work in these 2 days.
Good job !
I was aware of a couple of those problems, and made a post jam update to fix some of them: placing blocks should not be allowed and there were errors in my coordinate calculations.
_"I also experienced a few moments of softlocking"_
I'm not sure what causes the soft locking - I will have to check this.
thanks for playing, and giving a detailed write up.
p.s. your game looks great from the screenshots, I'm off to play it now
Thanks for playing and leaving a comment!
Great job, the sounds were authentic
