Subnet by jordantanner

Subnet is a minimalist descent game set in a digital underworld. You control a Data Fragment shifting through infinite layers of a corrupted cyberspace, collecting Bits to accelerate your movement and extend your journey.
Each layer grows more unstable, costing more Bits to progress forward, forcing you to choose whether to stay and 'cash in', or keep moving and try to grab more Bits.
Final Score = Bits * Layers Reached
Controls
- Move: Left Mouse
- Shift Layers: Right Mouse
This costs an increasing number of Bits every time
Instructions
- Quickly explore to collect as many Bits as you can.
- Before time expires, shift down to the next Layer.
- On each subsequent Layer, the timer is shorter, shifting Layers costs more Bits, and there are less Bits to collect.

@platonenko Switching layers already has a rhythmic feel to it so that could be a cool concept! Thanks for playing and for posting your score -- that's solid!
@finlal @thristhart Thank you so much for the feedback!
Also: Eat it JTS! Whoever you are.

Also: JTS is ME!! Haha. Great score man, looks like I have some work to do!! Thanks for playing so long I really appreciate it. :)
@shp Thank you! Yes the mouse move with a little smoothed camera movement can feel really good. Simple and effective! Glad you enjoyed, thanks for the feedback!!
@ammonit Thanks for giving it a few tries to give it a fair chance! I wanted to do something a little weird. Glad you dug the SFX but definitely agree some chill beats would add to the vibe here. I appreciate the feedback very much!!

@she-wrote I really was striving for a minimal style so I appreciate you noticing that. I had a lot of fun experimenting with the layers. Thanks for the kind words!
Gameplay! A timer!! What more could you want right?? haha. I really appreciate you guys playing this on stream on posting the link -- It absolutely made my Ludum Dare. Thank you!!
Was thrilled to watch you guys play this, hear you both talk about and figure out the rules, and then gradually got really good at the game to where you topped the leaderboard. I'm glad the game is reasonably easy to pick up but still fun, that was tricky.
Sorry for the confusion about the leaderboards, there are two versions of the game and thus two leaderboards. You were playing the Post-Compo version and not many people had played that one yet, hence the low number of scores on there.
Also thank you for the very generous ratings man, and the super kind words. Very much appreciated!!!
