Belials Bellybutton by Kujoen

 Welcome to Belials BellyButton, Diver !
This underwater cave-system is known for narrow passage ways, and staggering :warning: 0% survival rate :warning:
:skullcrossbones: Sounds like the perfect place to explore :skullcrossbones:
:gun: Use your harpoon to defend yourself....

:fast_forward: But reel it back in quickly or be left defenseless!!!

 Collect treasures to upgrade your divers Light and more...

Made in Godot 4.4.1 - GDScript only
:warning: Belials Bellybutton is a dark and moody game. We suggest playing in a darker environment :dark_sunglasses:
:goal: Currently to "win" the game, you must collect all upgrades hidden in the cave.... :goal:
:construction_worker: Updates
1.1 Added a upgrade-tracker on the bottom-right of the screen to point the player in the direction of the nearest upgrade.
1.2 Fixed a bug where killing one [REDACTED] would kill all [REDACTED] on the map... oops
All Art, Music and Soundeffects were made by us :fireworks:

The basic harpoon does not deal much and needs multiple hits to kill enemies
Should be fixed now.
All in all, nice mood, decent gameplay, got lost in the darkness. Good job!
Sorry for it ruining your run, but we are so glad you enjoyed and played our game :D
I also did not notice, that you could kill the fish. Blocking the path with jelly fish at the beginning (like you did at some point) would help to educate the player in a natural way. But I really appreciate that you put in a tutorial.
The atmosphere is very nice! The sound effects supported the uneasy feeling to be stuck in the depths of the ocean. As someone mentioned, I also like the small detail, that the swimmer looks around. The swordfish scared me. :D Good job!
I already checked out your game too, but I haven't posted yet, It's amazing though!
I managed to finish the game this time and had a smoother (and scarier) experience. I'm really proud of you guys for trying something different and moving out of your comfort zone with this game.
Everything else worked fine as far as I could tell, and I had a good time with this one, thanks for making it!
Great work
The visuals, music, and design worked together beautifully. At one point I realized I was genuinely spooked by the open space — and sure enough, within a minute, a giant fish showed up! I also really loved the sense of progression — and it’s a strong one! At some point, I caught myself thinking: this would make for an amazing roguelike.
The only thing that slightly soured the experience was a sudden death. I’m not quite sure how it worked — I had plenty of health left, and the swordfish weren’t doing much damage anymore, but then one dashed into me and wiped out my HP in an instant. Oof :с
Still, I think you’ve done an absolutely fantastic and meticulous job with the time you had. You created a mysterious, tense atmosphere, an interesting map, and solid challenges. Huge thanks for your work!
Please rate more games so your own gets bumped up in recommendations — your entry truly deserves to be played!
We may have overdialed the BIG swordfish a little bit, though the idea was that he will kill you very quickly if you did not collect enough upgrades. But a oneshot should not be possible, so there seems to be some weird bug there D:.
We are trying to get more people to play but I feel like it's harder somehow this jam :(
Thanks again for playing and the feedback!
The skippable tutorial is a great touch too.
I didn't figure out how to fight the swordfish. The diver moved really slowly, and I wasn't sure if I hit it with the harpoon as it was very dark
Very cool game!
Thanks so much for checking out our game, I just wish we could have built a sonar as cool as yours :D
@cgraen Thanks for finishing it, I had great fun making the audio and alot is inspired by my love for subnautica :) Unfortunately we just ran out of time for more varied enemies or a boss :(
The only feedback I can give is that level is either too huge, too open, or there should probably be one more thing in the game to justify going so far. But its so atmospheric that you really want to get to the end.
@hatmajaster Thanks for checking us out as well, we really wanted to add some more horrors down below but we just ran out of time :( Even the swordfish almost didn't make it into the game
@ryano That is true, we were torn between how impactful we wanted to make the upgrades and decided they should be very noticeable, so collecting three reel upgrades does make it almost instant... but toning it down more definitely is worth a consideration
Thanks for playing!
