Depths of Space by Ali Yagmur

[raw]
made by Ali Yagmur for Ludum Dare 57 (COMPO)

USE THE ARROW KEYS TO MOVE!

THE GAME LINKS ARE BELOW ON ITCH IO the web port didn't work on here so it is on the itch io.

There was indeed a tutorial planned out, but I have lost it somewhere in the depths of space.

This is a game I made for Ludum Dare 57 compo game jam.

I took it upon myself to make this a challange that is more than creating a game within 48 hours. I decided, as foolish as I am, to use Löve2D and Lua, of both I had no knowledge of 2 days ago.

I learned much and was able to create this masterpiece all by myself.

It is a game in which you travel through the depths of space in order to find and retreve an object, something that even I am not sure what it is. Since drawing is not my native language if you know what I mean.

And also, there is a strong story somewhere, behind some bugs I never get to fix or some feature that I couldn't find time to implement.

I have no brain cells left for writing a decent description here.

I have streamed 10 hours on both saturday and sunday while doing this game jam.

The vods are here if anyone interested, but it is in Turkish, mostly.

The source code is here, but it is a mess, just a friendly warning.

Fun little game you've made! Really slippery controls, but that's expected in space I guess :D

Couldn't make it to the end, but had a good time trying! Not sure if it's firefox or some other issue but I would get random huge framerate drops that would cause me to lose control and hit stuff, so I ended up kinda rage quitting before I could reach the end. Maybe it works better in chrome or safari? In any case it's a nice challenge, and the "no sound in space" really added to the ambiance  Nice job!

Dude why make that end so hard! FINALLY i was saw the pwer cell close but no, my velocity didnt reach and black hole ate me :(

Lovely janky jam game. The movement was intresting, wacy, challenging and fun.

Some effect for getting hit would have been nice, i didnt notice that i got dmg sometimes since the movement is quite intensive to control.

Nice!

@daandruff Totally realistic space movements

@youcarryoats Unfortunatly the problem exist in chrome as well. I myself rage quit the game at first. Tried to make it easier for like 2 hours but this was near the end of the jam, so my brain stopped working a long time before that. I ended up adding 3 lives and hoped this would be enough lol

@prunus-padis The special effects was on the list, but the list itself is missing, probably lost forever in the space now. Is it hard to finish the game, yes. Did I tried to make it easier, also yes. Why the hell it is still so hard to finish, I don't know, space I guess... xd

Thanks for playing :)

had a nice time with this, at first i wasn't sure what was causing the game to restart, then i noticed the lives going down. could use an explosion around the character when you lose a life!

nice work

Good job. I enjoyed whipping around space. It wasn't until my 3rd play-through that I finally realized I had lives and I was loosing them by crashing into the moons. I was just having fun rocketing around and didn't understand why I was randomly getting game overs. It was fun!

@mollusk @the3rdhunter The life count added last minute since the game was too hard :D Special effects and stuff couldn't make it to the end and forever will be lost in space.

Thanks for playing :)

Took me a while to get a hang of the movement, and once I did it took me a while to make it through all the way to the fuel with a generous 1 life remaining. Then I got the fuel and it said to go back home and I laughed real hard.

@phlip45 hahahaha... The cover image says it, a very hard game indeed :D Thanks for playing and the comment made me laugh like the main evil antagonist of a crappy movie.

Now that's a real challenge! I loved the physics and the attention to detail with sound in space =)

Wow, the gravity of the bodies really makes this one tough.

I both liked and hated the gravity of the planet :) maybe less density cam make this one feel more controlable

Veeeery hard game, but somewhat enjoyable. Twice I've got to power but by that time PC overheating and beginning to throttle, sigh. Keep up good work!

Gravity chaos😄 I enjoyed the challenge, even if I got sucked into a black hole more times than I’d like to. Great job with the feel of the movement and the space vibes!

Wow, that was hard - I also encountered quite a bit of lag spikes that killed me. Not sure it that was only on my end. Realistic black holes, that you cannot get away from if you get too close

Like it very much. I assume the maps is not random generated, is it?
