DEPTH FIRST by PassbyKamenRider

[raw]
made by PassbyKamenRider for Ludum Dare 57 (JAM)

You are an AI core trained by a CRAZY DR. Your "Master" believes there is a HELL. Driven by a depth-first cursed algorithm, guide your robot through procedurally generated labyrinths: place turn stones to avoid lava flows, activate laser guns to blast through walls. When you finally breach Death's domain, how will the underworld bureaucrat judge this human-led suicide mission?

Tutorial:

Important Things To Know:

DFS in this game prioritizes in order ➡️⬇️⬅️⬆️

Basic Controls:

DFS (Depth-First Search) is reimagined as the "Hellscraper Protocol" in this game, where the robot adheres to a directional hierarchy of Right → Down → Left → Up, with priority order being the key to overcoming hellish challenges.

🏆➡️*Left-Click to Place Turn Stones: *

Place stones on upcoming tiles to forcibly alter robot's moving direction

📤🖱️*Right-Click + Hold&Drag: *

Move around to see the whole map

🚶‍♀️🧭*GO Button Starts Pathfinding: *

Robot moves with Right → Down → Left → Up priority after clicking

🔄🌍*RESET Reinstates the Level: *

Click to remove all stones (NO LAVA AND BROKEN WALL WILL BE MOVE)

Tiles you need to know:

floor1.PNG

Floor, of course, the place you can walk through(hopefully)

floorTrap1.PNG

AH, LAVA! deadly, very deadly, VERY VERY DEADLY

ItemEnd.PNG

The END, jump down and find it(to find what)

Why does it always appear in the bottom right corner

ItemKey.png

A Laser Gun! what can it do?

ItemCrackedWall.PNG

Aha! A CrackedWall, this is where the laser gun should be used.(OF COURSE)

ItemBox.PNG

Turn Stones, It teaches you to turn early

Figured out the trick from level 4, the difficulty curve needs to be modified. The art is really cute.

Fun little puzzle game! I spent a good 20 minutes on this and near the end my brain is programmed to think exactly like the AI lol. My suggestions would be to play around with more mechanics like laser gun and cracked rocks. A portal, maybe? Also, some current levels can be beaten with rocks leftover. I finished one with 7 rocks left! I wish there is a hard mode that asks for optimized solution only. Overall very fun experience, good visuals, I liked it alot. Good job!![depth.png](///raw/14b/36/z/6b1c1.jpg)![thank_you.png](///raw/14b/36/z/6b1c2.jpg)

Finally another puzzle game! ;D It was nice, but the resolution was off so larger levels were not fully visible, just a heads up. I would love to complete it so let me know if you make a bugfix!

I like the use of the Theme on this game, really good take.

I love puzzle games and this is right on my alley.

I would add more mechanics and a way to move the screen easier (maybe WASD).

*I know the idea of the Depth First Algorithm is for the theme, but you could add other hierarchies of directions as expansions, maybe as a free robot it is experimenting (secret levels)

dorable concept with the kitty rescue—those puzzles are just the right kind of tricky! 🐱💡 The depth-first theme clicks perfectly, though I’d kill for WASD panning to peek at bigger levels. Resolution hiccups aside, squeezing solutions into minimal moves felt so satisfying. Secret ‘robot experiment’ levels when? Lovely job!

Loved the character design in the game! The dialouge was fun to read, especially the mad scientist. The gameplay is good, however it becomes hard to clear higher levels without being able to look around the map. Other than that, the dialouges made me smile. Great job!

I like the art style and characters. The scientist turned out very cool; I especially like his crazy facial expression.

The game is quite interesting. At first, I didn't understand what to do and had to read about how the robot chooses its direction of movement. :)

It took me a couple deaths, but I got the hang of the mechanics. In hindsight, I shoulda read the darn description, buuuut maybe consider adding a little tutorial? If you plan on expanding this game further, that is.

The puzzles themselves were super engaging and scratched my brain just right. The story, however, was a bit forgettable - but the character designs stuck with me, so you're doing something right!

Thanks for the game!

At 1st I thought I understood the movement, then I realised I dont.
Couple deaths passed and I got it. Tbh, I'm not personally the type who likes these games, BUT...
The mix of new puzzles but with a sorta story was interessting to keep me playing for abit.

I like that the puzzles are well thought out. Mechanics and movement make for alot of possibilities in level design.
With more variety this could definitly be smth one would wanna regurlarly play on mobile with constant new levels ^^
