I decided to take a metaphorical approach to "Depths" with the common figure of speech, "Depths of despair"

Unmasked is a game about either sacrificing yourself for your city or vice versa, The villains are based on common causes/triggers of depression, such as: Love life, income, self-worth, etc.

Controls: (for those who skip through dialogue) W A S D to move E to interact (with villains, portals, and building entrances) Click to shoot swords (when in hero mode)

BIG FIXES HAVE HIT UNMASKED! (About time)

0 NEW CONTENT, 0 ADDITIONS, ONLY FIXES TO WHAT WAS THERE!!!

-Task text is no longer offscreen

-Interact key works consistently

-Portal no longer goes missing in Desire's fight

-Player spawns at their bed (as intended) rather than a bus stop (left that in from testing...)

Once the Jam is over, I think I'll add a lot of what was missing but in the interest of following the rules and honour, I will only fix bugs. Thank you so much to everyone who plays, hope it's a much more playable experience now!

Just a heads up- the embedded LD version is not playing in my Chrome browser.

I was able to play on itch- interesting little twist there with Brennan! I read all of the buildings but I wasn't sure where to go from there.

Great game! Awesome interpretation of the theme! The story is super dramatic. Didn't like how enemies shoot from off-screen though.

I finally went through and fixed up the bugs (without adding anything new) and I hope the game feels a lot better now!

Thank you so much @lightningst @yossarian @sqqqwer for playing despite the plethora of issues, I appreciate the feedback a ton!

Unexpectedly detailed and deep story. And I also loved the knife-throwing mechanic. Great game!

Took me a minute to figure out I could aim the swords in different directions. Good job on the story! And comic book like art style!

Whoa, awesome way to use the theme! I really liked the story, you can definitely see Brennan spiraling into the depths of despair but still trying to do the right thing, really well written! The gameplay itself felt a bit empty, you could just kind of fly past the enemies and go straight to the boss, but the story really made me want to keep playing. One other issue I had (not sure if I missed a tutorial somewhere or not) was that I didn't realize you actually got to decide between capturing the villain or letting them free, which was a really cool thing to add once I noticed it. Great job!

I appreciate the amount of content there is in the game, especially when it comes to story. I wish there was more variety in combat mechanics and level design. But the story is great, I like all the different villains, just the ending where Brennan is left by his family felt a bit incomplete like you could have gone even further. 😁

I like the "twist" with the theme!

I struggled a little bit with the projectiles of the enemy, since they didnt spawn straight from the gun and therefore could shoot directly "down" - and hit our hero even tough we weren´t in sight.

Other than that, a rich story and a lot of levels!

@woona I definitely wish I had time for a more solid ending sequence! it was on the drawing board but I ran out of time! I appreciate the feedback a ton and I'm a little shocked that someone wants that ending to go... further!?

Story plus gameplay in the same entry in game jam is not so common.

This game need improvements on the aesthetic part and a more innovative gameplay, but I had a good time playing it.
