DorfSlinger by gdman

[raw]
made by gdman for Ludum Dare 57 (COMPO)

Plunge tireless (no) miner Dorf into earth to help him find all treasures of ancient depths of Boria!

Controls: Aim with Mouse/Touch, release to sling Dorf at desired moment.

Dorf drank all potions, so they're out of game due to deadline.

Handcrafted with love using Godot, Aseprite, Audacity without any use of AI.

Tip: if Dorf eats much, it can become obstacle, try giving him a diet! Note - game doesn't have save feature yet. Update for mouse controls.

Looks like the LD embedded version isn't working- I'm seeing

>Failed to read the 'serviceWorker' property from 'Navigator': Service worker is disabled because the context is sandboxed and lacks the 'allow-same-origin' flag.

However, I was able to play it on itch. I think you could make things a bit more springy/juicy with the firing mechanic, right now it feels very rigid. The art is nice, but having menus on-theme would go a long way. Overall, nice work getting this done in 48 hours!

I found some treasure :sunglasses:

Really cool idea to have an incremental game like this where you carve out the stage as you go! The pixel art is great, I like the Dorf sprite in particular. I think having the font and UI panels in the same style as the game sprites could help tie everything together visually.

Really fun game. I really needed just a simple and satisfying game where I don't have to think too much for a change of pace, thanks!
As for feedback, the early game lacks some more control of your dwarf to go in different directions. And the dwarf slows down too fast. I mostly just went straight down like a brick. Some more bouncy physics would have probably been more fun to play around with.

@sam-minh @bridgeonastick thanks for playing! Indeed beginning is kinda slow and limited and also depends on starting generation, I should improve that.

@thoastbot twice congratulations! I realized very late that there is no limit for that.

I played for almost an hour, I had many failed throws, poor dorf, also the song reminds some psychodelic songs that I listened here in Brazil I liked a lot

I... am just a little speechless. The homemade clarinet soundtrack, Dorf spinning two pickaxes at the roughly the same rotational rate as a quasar, hidden gold statues, a strange dude with a crank-powered sling. This was game was many things, and I found it to be a real delight.

Very fun game! Pickaxe upgrade to get rid of those previously indestructible rocks was very satisfying!

Excellent little entry! The presentation feels extremely "classic LudumDare" and is very charming. (I love the music especially.) I liked figuring out all the mechanics and puzzling out how to make progress, and stumbling upon the end goal was a lot of fun. The control system of the slinger is well presentated, and a nice way to do it instead of the classic "click and drag" style I've seen before. Also, the way that Dorf himself bounces off of things, while the pickaxes do the actual digging, is an interesting touch which makes the game kind of pachinko-esque. (I also looove the spinning duel wield pickaxes...) Lots of great stuff, good work! :D

This was charming, funny, and addictive! I was hoping that I could get through the last layer with strong enough tools, but only broke one or two blocks. Going left was harder than going right because it sent him feet first.

Cool game, the music is very fitting. Some of the upgrades were a bit confusing and felt like I need to stash my money so I can get them but I can see why this was done. I think for a compo entry its a pretty solid game, works well, nice vibe music and matches the theme, I think its pretty impresive game done in only 48 hours!
