The Sunken Treasure by strong99

[raw]
made by strong99 for Ludum Dare 57 (JAM)

Six weeks ago the ship Rosemary ran into some heavy weather and sunk into the Nameless Sea.

Are you a brave helmsman that likes to dive into the Nameless Sea?

There is one attempt left before winter comes to go on some treasure diving.

Controls: - Arrows or WASD to move - F to fish (fish get interested when close enough) - B to buy (when near the ship)

Beautiful graphics, and the mood and theme are top-notch too! But I felt the tutorial was lacking – it took me about 30 seconds to figure out how to control the submarine. Maybe consider adding a clearer tutorial next time!

Game was fun and i liked the art style, i got kind of a luck/bug at the end where 70€ fishes were constantly respawning just under my submarine so it accelerated the full upgrade and the end of the game for me xD, but it was a fun experience, well done !

Nice meditative game, I think it would be nice to have a button to sell all fish instead of doing it manually.

How do I catch fishes?

Press the Fish button, or keyboard key A or Space. A fishing rod line will drop, and you have to wait for nearby fish to become interested.

@jamesgames1000 stop the boat, then start fishing, the fish will come to you.

What is a better question is to how to fish for the crates? They sometimes seem to try to escape (sinking through the ground)... Once I saw it coming to the boat. Once I fished it successfully. But controlling the boat is difficult, and especially situating it over the crate is quite challenging. Every light press of a button moves it quite far in that direction.

It's a good idea for a game, though, and fishing is nice. I was keeping one copy of every fish without selling it on purpose to "collect" all of them. But I couldn't collect the special crates - they sunk through the ground and I don't think there is a way to get them now, so I don't think I can finish the game.

@tiar Love the fish collection desire :) Cool!

It's possible if you hang still and hang out the fishing rod. It's a bug though. The chests think they're fish. An error from the last minutes of the Jam.

Loved the idea and the art! Maybe it's a bit too easy to catch the fish ? Or was your goal to keep it relaxing and soothing ? Anyway great job!

That's a nice little game that you made here. It's quite complex (buying enhancements on the boat, multiple types of fish, loot boxes etc). I liked the graphics and the eye on the detail. The background sound was quite basic, but it worked setting the atmosphere - the game was nice relaxing.
I agree @papykent that it's quite easy to catch fish, simply sit on a spawn point and get one fish after the other :D. I didn't quite get how to "catch" a chest, they moved away from me :D. I also didn't know how to end or "win" the game; I dived down to 140ish meters and found a ship there.
The didn't use all the light-, speed- and radius enhancements since I did not see the neccessarity of it, but I think if you add predators or time limit, this would polish you game. All in all great job for the given time!!

It looks like the debug tools are still accessible? Sometimes I'd fish in the middle of what looks like a school of purple fish, but when I reel one in it's something else instead - a tuna, a jellyfish, etc. Bug?

The cargo crate swimming up to the fishing line and politely grabbing on is a really strange mechanic. Unclear what the lights are for?

I found what looked like those Rosemary crates, but they swam away through the ground and didn't come back.

I appreciate the unique weird, threatening music. I wish the loop was longer - it gets repetitive really quick.

The gameplay is simple and this is a good thing - very relaxing to just chill and catch those fish! Graphics are awesome - nice work!

i played it all, it is very relaxing a really enjoyable experience. I have noticed there are some fishes that give you like four different fishes before getting fished. Also, you can buy from anywhere just by pressing B. A solid jam entry for sure!!
