Sticky's Aquarium by Salaro

[raw]
made by Salaro for Ludum Dare 57 (JAM)

I was hoping to get more done but unfortunately it just feels like a half baked idea. I wanted to add at least 3 zones with tons of different types of fish. But for my first time trying to make something this complex in this little time I am really proud of what I've done!

Controls on Itch.IO page

Art: I made all the art except for the grass tiles at the lake. Sound: All sound effects made myself using Chiptone and Audacity Screenshot 2025-04-07 185732.png

The game does not seem to be loading for me in the embedded page. Sometimes this happens in Unity builds when the web player settings has data caching checked on. This is not an issue on itch.io AFAIK

Here is how you can disable Data Caching

- pack it as a ZIP index.html is at the root-level aside the folders created by Unity
- Disable “Data Caching” when creating the WebGL build in “Player Settings” -> “Player” -> “Publishing Settings”

Cute fishing game! The art is simply adorable, having everything outlined in white made things pop and eye catching. The audio is cute as well, really like the shop music. The aquarium of your catches is a nice touch of polish.

Some feedback, I wish I could see how much money I currently have while fishing, instead of having to go back to the store. Also having descriptions for what each of the upgrades do would be nice (though it is obvious once you are playing). Overall fantastic entry, love to see it!

Incredibly charming. Girlfriend and I loved it :) It took a little bit to figure out how to collect money! Everything else was very intuitive though especially the catching minigame.

Very cool fishing mini game, I'm not sure I've seen one like it. I do agree with you though it would be better if there was more variety of fish. Overall it was very polished and fun, good job.

oh i love this, it feels like something to find on cool math games. The controls could be made clearer though, but it's really fun

super cute, well designed game and beautiful graphics! this feels like a great "depths" fishing minigame! I think it would benefit to add some more explanation on how to play, either before the game starts or somewhere on this page/the itch page, including controls. I'm also not totally sure how to earn money, it seems like my frogs were running away and gave me coins? I will replay it if there are some more instructions provided, but it was fun to throw the fishing pole and do the circle fishing minigame!

Really like the fish background in the menu. Great aesthetic.
Instructions were a lot to take in on the front page - forgot a lot of them quickly.
Fishing minigame is p good. I always take a moment with these kinds of rhythm games to get oriented before I can get into a flow and the meter means that I could nail 4 of them in a row but still lose the fish because I was too slow to get started. Maybe if the meter replenished a bit on a correct click?
Would be neat to see a shop or more of a goal in terms of what you're trying to catch.

Love it! I think I did everything... not sure what all there is to do. But, I did find a sparkly fish, and caught all the ones I saw. And unlocked everything:

I love this little dude:

The main fishing mechanic was super intuitive and felt great! Loved the number popping effect to sell it. Some of the fish were super stressful, in a good way!

I enjoyed the art, particularly the little froggy visitors. I like that they drop coins. At first, it was challenging, and I didn't realize I was making money and could buy upgrades. Those helped with the harder fish. The sound effects were a little jarring to me, but not a big deal. Overall, a fun little game. Great work!

Your game looks really polished. I like your graphics and had to smile when I saw the little frogs carrying money :D - at first I didn't read the instructions and was waiting for a long time to catch a fish. Then I saw I can move the bobber and endless fun began. Great job!
Sadly the game state isn't saved once clicked on the controls.

there is something nice about the simplicity of this kind of game.
i was however a little disappointed not to find anything bigger than the third fish.

@melonboy I was hoping to add more zones but due to poor time management I couldn't, there are rare shiny variants though that are quite a challenge to catch!

Game was cute and fun UNTIL the red fish came into the picture. F that fish. Catching it was harder than sekiro. Otherwise good game, maybe delete that fish to spare sanity of players though just my take. Also sometimes hitting the walls or the floor when the fish would dodge made me hiss at the screen.

@verttixpertti double down and add dark souls boss music when you try to catch a shiny (I already tuned the catch speed of all shiny fish so it should be made easier once the jam is over)

This is what I wish most fishing minigames were like. A lot of the times, the mechanics are just frustrating, but this one is FUN. Super solid entry, the graphics are really really cute.

It's funny because we also initially wanted to make a fishing game but we were afraid that it would be boring. Turned out your game was the one I spent most time on haha

The aquarium screen (with the frogs below) is just super cute, the music is precious. Really amazing work!

You have the base of a nice cozy game if you want to explore it and expand it.
A strong loop (fish>show>sell). I recommend adding music and more juice on the catching of fish. What about taking wishlist or orders from your clients, and those fishes glow or are outline, and harder to catch.

I enjoyed it a lot!

I love that you've came up with a pretty unique fishing mechanic (at leas I haven't see it used anywhere else as a cozy game connoisseur).

Sometimes when the new point on a ring in this minigame was spawning, it was in a place super close to the one I've just cliced on. When this happened, the fish was drawn over it, so I couldn't immediately see this point. I think it would be a good idea to introduce a minimum distance between the points in the minigame and/or maybe reduce the fish size.

W O A H !!!!!!!!!!!!! I absolutely adore your game. I'm literally giving this 5 stars like no other game. Insane. The fishing mechanic is simple yet effective. The loop is so fun. The art is beautiful. The frogs are cute as hell. The aquarium is satisfying. The bobber movement and gameplay is smooth and also fun. If I HAD to pinpoint something not perfect, it would be that the progression felt a bit "slow". But maybe that was because you don't see all your fish in the tank so I wasn't sure if there is a certain capacity or if it's just for aesthetic/performance issues, so I didn't know if I should fish more or wait for money. THE MONEY!!! I almost forgot, the money sounds, VFX and the mechanic of having to pick it up is a cherry on top. The music is also very nice. Thank you for your submission, giving you a follow!

very cute game, simple but fun loop. Love the style and as a fellow frog game creator for this Ludum kudos :frog:

this might be a personal thing but I'm never really a fan of pixelated text, while it definitely fits with the style of the game I do struggle a bit to read it. Otherwise very nice!

Very nice and polished game. Awesome job for such a short time!

Does catching a fish that is already in the aquarium give some bonus? After some time the fishing became just a way to pass time to wait for visitors to drop coins.

After purchasing the coin collector it took quite some time for the coin counter to go from 500 to 0.

I got all the upgrades but I have never seen the rare sparkly fish

Catching multiple of the same type of fish actually gives you a bonus multiplier to the value that fish gives, if a goldfish gives a value of 2, then catching 5 doubles it to 4 and so on! @prvaak

This is cute! It reminds me a little bit of Webfishing. The fishing minigame felt fun and well-balanced and I liked all the little details like the visitors on the aquarium screen. :)
