Lockpicks-11 by suvi

[raw]
made by suvi for Ludum Dare 57 (JAM)

You've been thrown into the depths of a heist.

Help our thief prove they're not out of their depth when it comes to lockpicking their way to freedom. To what length will our burglar go to nab a precious prize from the depths of the treasure vaults? How many doors deep did they land themselves this time? Did our pilferer even consider the depth of trouble they'd be in if caught in the act? All qualms aside, I guess they're knee-deep in it now!

Puzzle your way through the collection of lockpicking minigames that stand between you and a heist well done.

TOOLS USED: - Unity - abused DOTween for those animations/intro sequence - Zoom H5 for recording SFX - Cubase for editing SFX audio and music/composing - Native Instruments Complete for instrument samples - Photoshop for art/animations

CHANGELOG: - fixed null-ref issue in doors scene causing game to crash (see, this is what happens when the art-person is assigned programming tasks), not that we got the doors display working regardless xD - forgot to switch off testing shortcuts (this affected door spawns, animation times, scene skipping etc.) in the previous build, everything is enabled as intended now - fixed nasty bug loading the previous doors' timer instead of the chosen one - 2 captcha puzzles had the wrong answer key, making them impossible to solve -- updated those to be correct

Short and sweet, but very fun! I'd liked to see more variation in the doors, but the art was good, and the balance of the puzzles felt nice!

Very smooth experience overall! The changing frame as you move between scenes is really smooth and gives the game a nice sense of identity. Plus the simple jazz beat in the background was a nice touch. :)

Wow this was a really fun game! I loved the way you used the camera and shaped the screen, gave so much vibe to it. The soundtrack is also really great, has a lot of swing and contributes very much to the overal mood. I really loved the concept, and it is super polished for such a short period of time. Really great work! Thank you for the game.

The graphics and animations are absolutely stunning with smooth transitions. The game keeps introducing new mechanics too. It's just a shame you can't skip the opening cutscene, which makes replays take longer. Fantastic game overall!

@gaspar Ha, good point! Not sure how neither of us thought to put in a cutscene skip, especially considering we literally had a testing shortcut to do exactly that x) Thanks!

Buttery smooth animations. Clean and broad variety of mini-puzzles. Cohesive and clean art style. And that bassline, oh yeah! This game is great! It feels really expertly crafted with love.

Really nice game, the concept is nice, really original. It has a nice depth to it as it takes some time to understand each lock. And the graphics are also good. GG ! Really cool entry.

Nice, love the style! Everything feels very polished and juicy both visuals and sound. Great music too! Had a lot of fun learning the mini games, just wish I could skip the intro so I could get more tries going faster.

That is soooo cool!
The art is super smooth and the little mini-games of the doors are well thought out.
The last door (spoiler: police car) could have had an individual last mini-game which is like the "endboss" door, but you managed to do alot already.
I'm not quite sure how the theme fits in tho, but nontheless its a fun game.

Awesome job ^^

Fun game and interesting puzzles, beautiful art, pleasant difficulty, but where the police car is I couldn't do anything, maybe there was a bug, but there was no progress in the cylinders. Anyway it was fun, thanks

I loved it definitely one of my top 3. If you plan on adding more post LD add a skip intro button because every time you lose you have to rewatch it. What did the doors button do? Great game :)

@jtap oof, that sucks it happened on the last door! Yeah, we forgot to reset the progress bars for that fishing mini-game after you've already beat it once within a run -- we'll get around to patching it

@jamesgames1000 Thanks, yeah we'll definitely be adding that in :) Doors button was supposed to be a collection view of all the doors you've been through and a way to replay specific minigames (initally thought it might be useful for testing/de-bugging), but we didn't get around to hooking it up so it's currently just a monument to our hubris

I don't disagree, Doors would of been a better theme. Great Game

Love the graphics and mini games. The music was perfect. The theme was a bit loose, and not sure how depth really fit in, how many doors can you get through?

Nice! The graphics and animation are great, and the whole "minigame succession" kinda reminds me of the Wario Ware series. Great game!

Very fun and creative game, I like the variety in puzzles and the beautiful animations. The game is simple but engaging enough to keep me replaying a couple of times even after I beat it. The music is a bit repetitive but I think you did a great job!

Such a polished game! Lovely colours and smooth animations. I also would've liked a cutscene skip option, but only after watching it at least once, to appreciate the work you put into it - very impressive!

Wow what a nice game! The intro is great. The music fits so good! I enjoyed it a lot. I had to was caught a good amount of times so an option to skip the intro would have been nice. But then again it's so cool, that one can watch it several times =)

Love the variety of the puzzles! I replayed a few times to see them all, although I was disappointed to see that they didn't seem to unlock in the "Doors" menu (at least in the web version).

@mao You and me both! Unfortunately, we ran out of time for the door menu. But, the good news is that it already works in the post jam version, and there are more doors. We'll post the update when they shut off the ratings some time tomorrow. Here's a sneek peek:
