Fridge Dive

Fridge Dive is a casual puzzle game. As night falls, you're hungry and need to carefully grab the food you crave from the fridge, all while avoiding collisions with other items inside the fridge. Every sound of collision could be the trigger to wake up your mother—can you satisfy your hunger before she wakes up, or will you be caught red-handed?

Basic Controls:

  • Move the mouse → Aim at the food
  • Click Left Mouse Button → Grab the food
  • Hold Right Mouse Button → Move the camera horizontally
  • Hold Spacebar → Pull the food out

Heartbeat Quick-time Event:

  • When the screen shows a shrinking circle, press Spacebar at the right moment → Steady your heartbeat!

Winning Conditions:

  • Get everything shown in the menu.

Failure Conditions:

  • When the alertness bar fills up or you failed to steady your heartbeat, your mother wakes up.

Tips:

  • When you pick up the food, it shakes, so remember to time it right and zoom in to guide it through the gaps between obstacles.

It’s all for the midnight snack!

Developer Notes:

We came up with this idea from our personal experiences of rummaging through the depths of our fridges for food, sometimes behind our parents' back. We wanted to create a sense of tension when playing, so we added the QTE where you almost get discovered by your parents. Hope you enjoy our game!

This is awesome, hilarious concept and great execution. Everything worked smoothly. Great song choice too, one of my favorites :) good work, smart game and suits the jam format perfectly!

Interesting game. The art was well done, but its hard to tell the depth of different items, it feels very flat. I made a fridge-themed game for ludum dare 54 and its fascinating how such similar concepts can turn out so wildly different.

The art in this is so excellent, and I liked puzzling out how to extract each food item!

Good graphics, I really liked the concept of the game overall.

I'm not really a fan of how much shaking each piece of food had (sometimes I was almost perfect on pulling them out of the fridge, then it would swing wildly and smack something at the last second)

The QTE got kind of annoying pretty fast as I'd be super focused on trying to avoid all the other items in the fridge and then BAM! QTE  I guess that's the point of QTE, though?

Sometimes it was a bit hard for me to see the food I was supposed to be getting because there were other items in front of it, and I kept trying to grab those and move them out of the way but couldn't. Would like to see this expanded on but possibly make it so you can move obstacles out of the way (maybe they'll just make noise when you do so?)

Fun game even if it frustrated me a little bit

Very interesting game! I really like the art style of it.

The QTE part reminds me of some music games, but the precision with which the player presses the space has no real impact despite the color differentiation made.

Another thing is that while the player camera can be moved around, the exact location of the obstacles in the refrigerator is really still hard to discern.

Overall, I really enjoyed this game🥰, the gameplay and theme were very innovative, and I can't imagine how you guys associated the depth of the fridge, at all。

@rubixnoob13 Thanks for the feedback! We actually wanted to implement grabbing and dropping items in the beginning, but as we don't actually use physics for any of the movement of the items, it would take more time that we had to implement correctly (it falling into place). Perhaps we could implement it in the future for fun. Glad you enjoyed!

@aincrad You're right that we added a 'perfect' feedback effect for the QTE without actually adding any mechanics for it 😝. I can also definitely see why in the later levels you'd feel like it got a bit visually cluttered, which we probably could've cleaned up on. Glad you enjoyed it and liked our idea!

The premise is fun and relateable. This is quite unique take on the theme. I really like the QTE in the game, and the art as well. It's fun that you have to be strategic with which path you should take that makes the less noise. Though it's sometimes difficult to manuver I feel in the third level, when the picked up item hovers around too much. Especially in a very cluttered area. Moving the camera there didn't help so much when trying to gauge the depth perception. Nevertheless, this game felt quite solid besides the few hiccups here and there. Great job on the game!

I had fun, the art was cute. I did have some trouble with judging depth. Nice work.
