Depths of Field by pRoFiT

[raw]
made by pRoFiT for Ludum Dare 57 (JAM)

FPS Depth of Field game.

3 levels.

WASD movement. Mouse look

P - Pause menu and volume settings. (mouse sensitivity is what it is for now. sorry no changing it from settings)

The game will adjust depth of field when you move faster. Time will also slow down when you are idle and speed up when you run.

Best time leaderboard.

I did not have much time on this so i put something quick together.

Only audio i managed to get in was me breathing loudly and modified in audacity to make it sound like rocket thrusters.

okay i tried one last time as the time to post ran out. but no luck. So the link below has the only running version.

Well well well. I should of made a well game. this game kinda sucks for me. i had plans to add a way to gain points. then i thought maybe just time based is fine. But leaderboards are setup for high score not low time...only got 1 level sorted out and not exactly what i wanted. level 2 i was about to start and realized i need to do a web build and make sure it will run. that took 2-3 hours of messing around. so i'm done.

Pretty hard game, but I had a neat time with it.
The movement of the platforms was also fun to look at.
Having a leaderboard is so cool! I haven't seen that before

yah leader board needs some work. im thinking lowest time would be better. now it gives a score and time bonus. but thats not really accurate. If i had another 4 hours...

The platforms are a little strange. at first you slid off. i tried to fix with matching the platform vector. but some platforms launch you others you stick. not sure whats going on.

Very hard but love the obstacles. Would like for the movement to be a bit smoother, but overall very interesting

Fun take on the theme hahah. Was getting super nauseous in the beginning but after a while you kinda get used to it.

@Patatje ahhh, i see you played all 3 (same) levels and made it to the end. nice. you are on the leader board. Thanks for playing to the end. sorry it's really disorientating.

I liked the idea of depth of field but I just found it a little annoying after playing for a while.

Level design is a little weird, like you have to stop and wait for platforms to align.

Having the perspective change made me feel like I was going super fast! This could be great if it was more like a high speed platformer

@broco, yah after i played a little bit i thought maybe i should of switched the time adjustment around. probably not noticible. but when you are idle time slows. and when you run it speeds up. Maybe if i had it the other way you would be like Flash and the faster you move things would slow down. and then dont make it platforms but a ground run with obsticles...if i had more time to plan this ;). My first though was ortho view but that would require me to move the world in 3d space and lock the player in order for it to look right. i tried moveing player with camera in ortho mode and it was horrible!

Gotcha! We all know how this is 😅

It's a really interesting idea tho! Maybe you can keep on working on it in the future 😉

it doesn't go full screen on itch.io for some reason.
Would be cool if you could detect which platform I'm standing on and add it's speed to characters speed so that it stays on top not because the walls (hitting the walls because the platform is moving is a bit jarring).
It is fun to observe the FOV change with speed

i wish i could run non stop but you have to wait for platforms to align

@alex-servirog yah i did add some code to try and keep player locked to platform. but didn't get it working right in the end.
