Abysm by APG

[raw]
made by APG for Ludum Dare 57 (COMPO)

Those pesky tentacles are attempting to emerge from the depths and destroy the world again. It's up to you, a weird cephalopod creature, to stop them.

Use WASD or arrow keys to move and left mouse click to teleport to the green dot. If you teleport through a tentacle, you cut it off and get points, shown by the green bar in the middle on the left side. When the point bar is full, you win. If a tentacle touches you, you take damage, shown by the purple bar on the left. If you run out of health, you lose. Each tentacle on the screen generates corruption, shown by the blackish bar on the right. If that bar fills up, you lose.

Being near the top of the screen increases the rate at which you heal, and being near the bottom of the screen reduces corruption faster.

I think the idea of stopping tenacles is interesting. I like the player it is very silly!

I felt really cool when I got 2 tentacles with 1 teleport. Cute game, I love the art and the background environment!

Once I understood the mechanics (thanks for the description), the gameplay was clean and fun!

The tentacles are nice, and the music really matches the mood.

Fun mechanic to destroy the tentacles by teleporting on top of them, but makes it very difficult!

A really interesting concept that was fun to play, if a little unforgiving. The black corruption bar was very difficult for me to see, and seemed to be the main way I lost. I often found that the tenticles would move at the last minute and ruin my attempt to cut them off. Loved the artwork and the tentacles were really well animated. The music was a nice addition, although it felt a little bit repetitive. Great job.

Very dynamic and original little game! It took me ten tries to beat it, after I mastered controls and realized I move too slow and need to keep tentacles present under 3. Music little annoying but that adds to ctulchian pressure, good job!

Good idea and good execution but a little difficult.

It's a bit too hard to avoid attack from tentacles. A more progressive difficulty would be a plus. Nice idea and work

Cool idea. Like others already said, its a little on the unforgiving side. Also I didnt understand the bars at first. The tentacles always got me and i didn"t know why.

I think there is mutch room or improvement, but the idea is solid. I can see a mobile version with swipe controls be really fun.

Interesting concept! Took a few tries to get through (I had to read the instructions to understand, but I got there). But it was a neat idea for a jam, well done!
