HMS Lumos by Helagos

Bug fix 2025-04-08 : Fixed a bug with the light upgrade that turned the screen white

Note : quality is better on itch.io

HMS Lumos is a vertical scrolling game where you dive beneath the sea with your submarine to search for treasures.

Be careful, you have limited oxygen and can't dive as deep as you want... for now. There's a small roguelite mechanic where you can upgrade your ship after each dive.

Additionally, as you dive deeper into the water, the light diminishes!

Controls:

Slide the bottom bar selector to move and dive the ship. Release it to dive much slower.

Throw treasures to reduce weight and slow down oxygen depletion.

Collect treasures and avoid hitting scraps.

Have fun!

A bit bland, but I like what you did with the controls.

Game is quite easy but the overall progression and upgrades are quite fun!

I encountered a major bug: When I picked the upgrade that increased light in the depths, the game became blindingly white and I couldn't see anything anymore. Up to that point it was pretty enjoyable if a bit easy. I expected rising for oxygen to not be instantaneous, so there's no need to preserve oxygen for the way back.

Overall, simple but solid game, good job!

Pretty fun one! I encountered the same issue as frib - when I bought the light upgrade, my screen eventually turned white and I couldn't see treasures nor barrels:

I would move the background elements a bit more, because it kinda confused me at the beginning, but only for couple of seconds. I thought it was like a map showing you where you are. Otherwise pretty fun game, quite relaxing. And a nice, calming music!

Nice and relaxing game. I find it to be on the easy side, but the roguelike mechanic kept me playing again and again. I think it would be interesting to have more valuable treasures appear the deeper you go ? Nice entry overall, good job!

The art and mechanics of moving the submarine felt great!

I couldn't quite understand how the game works with the amount of oxygen and losing items when Rising back up.

It seems it's unintentional, I also had my whole screen turn white after I bought the flash light.

A game with great potential, well done!

Wow, bosca ceoil for the music is crazy... crazy cool, that is! Good art, control scheme is fun too. Some of the sound effects were way too loud, compared to the music. Didn't seem like there were more treasure deeper below, so I was farming in the surface in the end. Got the oxygen low warning text and it never went away- no big deal though. Had a few cool moments where I just barely scraped between barrels :D I played a few runs (okay, maybe over an hour) to see how far I could get... 30 000m, way deeper than the Mariana Trench! Had fun - good job!

Hey!
Replayed the game after the flashlight fix, much better experience (especially since I got the flash light right from the start on my previous attempts haha).

Cheers!

Nice game! Love the mix of upgrade choices and going deeper and deeper. An interesting take on the submarine kindof game, nicely done!

Pretty cool game! I enjoyed the roguelike mechanic of upgrading after dives but I found that even getting approximately 15 chests and returning to the surface only gave me 2 gold which didn't allow me to upgrade as much as I wanted to. Other than that, the gameplay felt smooth and I liked the submarine animations when moving.

The main mechanic of the game is clear and easy to understand. I like the music too! I guess it could become even more engaging with some more polish beyond the COMPO time frame, maybe by making the pace more juicy, and amplifying the rewards when going deeper, because that's not obvious at the moment. Great entry anyway (especially in 23 hours)!

Gameplay setup made sense and UI looked good, fully-featured. Audio was similarly good.

I'd like to see an indicator of how much oxygen it takes to rise to the surface (I was told I didn't have enough one time though I still had some in the bar). Noticed a little bug where the oxygen level low indicator doesn't go away for the next run.

Gameplay excitement could probably be improved by varying the movement speed of the obstacles and treasures, maybe adding some horizontal movement into the mix, make players have to anticipate and dodge.

Nice entry.

Haven't seen this combination of control/movement scheme before, it works well. Lots of fun directions you could take this one - I could see it as either a relaxing mobile game or something more intense if you built out the obstacles and upgrades.

Nice game and controls, couldn't quite figure out when it's time to rise again though cause I didn't know how close it was when I sank the last time"

Cute game, I really liked the texture on the sprites, the the game overral was solid

There were some small issues, like the fish going on the UI

Maybe need some more things, but Overral nice entry

I made it 38297m. It would have been nice if there was special/more/any treasure down there, but I guess that would allow you to dive indefinitely on just treasure air, making the other upgrade less important.
