Drill-Off is an arcade style score chasing game where you fuel your mechanical drill by filling it's tank with tetrominos. You gain new skills as you drill deeper and they differ based on what color blocks you use. They help you reach deeper and allow you to gain bigger scores. Your main hurdle is different (incrementally harder) tasks that you much fulfil to keep going.

Prove yourself a pro driller by claiming a spot on the online leaderboards!

A fun entry, managed to get in the top 5! It did feel like I lost to just getting unlucky though since I got no pieces of the needed color several rounds in a row.

Really great game, the amount of polish added is quite insane for a jam!

Solid and fun game! Not sure what the winning strategy is, because eventually the RNG seems to prevent you from getting the required colors for cooling down. There also seem to be some trap upgrades, like the one that changes the least-used color green, since that can lock you out of achieving the goal colors completely.

Overall though, I enjoyed a few playthroughs :D very nicely done!

That was an amazing game! The art style was super cute and awesome, and I absolutely loved the character design, haha. The sound effects and the music fit perfectly with the game. It doesn't even feel like a game from a jam – it feels like a fully developed game. I was a bit confused at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was all a lot of fun. Keep up the great work!

Funny game with a tetris mechanics, that are perfectly implemented in a new idea) Bravo! Also like the vibe of the game made by animations, especially UI!

@frib Yeah, most of the upgrades are just kinda bad and trappy. That's the biggest thing on my todo list for the post jam version, a complete overhaul of the perks so that there are some good, fun and interesting options. Now pretty much everything just ends up being bad except for few of them and the score increasing ones.

Took me two tries to get the game, so quite intuitive i'd say. Very polished, I can see you are very experienced at this. One minor annoyance is no audio settings (or i couldn't find it). Really interesting concept with the color mixing!

Wow, the level of polishing of game, interactions and assets is amazing!
Took some time to understand the cooling of the engine (understood how it worked after reading comments)

Great stuff!

This was really fun! It took me a second to figure out the system but I ultimately it made sense once it got going! Intuitive!

Really clever concept!! Took a bit to realize to stop something from overheating I needed to use 5 of a color, but once I figured that out I picked it up pretty quickly. Great work all around!

Wow that entry actually surprised me! It is actually very creative and I really liked it.
Maybe there could be a bit more explanation about the mechanics / tiles and stuff at the beginning, but the rest is very well executed.

Incredibly polished game, especially for a game made only in 48 hours. You obviously have a lot of experience and it definitely shows!
Animations feel super snappy, alive and are beautiful to just look at. UI is nicely responsive with some weight into it. Your artstyle is awesome - it reminds me of older flash games, and it's a nice break from all low poly/pixel art games... which I should also stop doing.
Very original tetris-like gameplay; mixing colors is a really good idea and surprised me when I saw it, I just expected new blocks overlapping old ones right away. Though since the grid here is quite small, it kinda felt like I was at the mergy of RNG gods, and upgrades could be more varied. However, I am not the first person saying that, and I see you're already planning to make a full version of this with more variety, so, I can't wait to see that!
It's also great to have a leaderboard - not many jam games have that. Hopefully I will contribute to it more tomorrow when I am more fresh, because clearly, I am not a good player, at least yet.
Otherwise, apart from that, we can nitpick unimportant stuff if we want, but the fact is that you have extremely polished, fun and professional game here, and I would be quite surprised if this didn't win top something.
And you have earned another follower on itch.io

Everything in this game is very high quality and very polished, and somehow it's fun even if you don't understand 100% of what's going on. I don't have much to add, just congratulate you on an amazing job!

really impressive game and clever use of the theme and also using the tetris building mechanic -- thanks for making it

That's a very original idea, to mix a puzle about mixing colors with each colors having a drilling power + also getting more powers and modifiers as you go. Felt very fresh to me. I can't say I've really figured out the game, since it seems to fulfill the challenges you can't focus on only one color, but at the same time I wasn't able to go very deep by keeping it balanced... But clearly there's a strategy that works, since you got some high scores on that leaderboard! And I had a lot of fun playing anyway + The visuals and music are very well done, the game overall is very polished!

Glancing at the other comments I realized that I don't appreciate enough the skill and experience your games demonstrate. Again this game will most likely be the most polished one I'll play at this LD. Like people mentioned the upgrades can cause issues. I picked the green energy and lost the run to that. But I'm not completely sure if that's a bad thing. Maybe there could be another mechanic to balance that instead of completely removing that perk. First thing I thought of when I saw the perks was "I couldn't make this work well in 48h". So I think you did great considering.
