Overview

Thallas is a game about survival at the bottom of the ocean, inhabited by dangerous sea creatures, where time is not on your side. You are in control of an ancient trilobite submarine. Your goal is to survive as long as possible by opening containers on the ocean floor and avoiding danger in the form of local inhabitants. Run, sneak, explore - and maybe you'll see something mankind has never seen before. screenshot.png

HOW TO PLAY:

Your task is to survive in the depths of the ocean, to which you were sent by scavengers in search of valuable items that can be contained in cargo containers. No one suspected what horrors lurk in this black abyss....

There is no ending in the game, as well as valuable items. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to do everything we had in mind as this is our first participation in this jam. Listen to the sounds of the ship to figure out what resources to use

WARNING!!!!

Elements on the ship's UI are clickable. They are not hazard lights, but buttons for player interaction with the ship. Items in the inventory are not clickable by themselves, they are used in the ship

WARNING!!!!

Controls:

WASD - walking

Mouse - flashlight control

E - interact with objects

R - change oxygen tank (for the character).

Thanks a lot!
Some mechanics aren't working correctly right now, so the character doesn't die now, and containers may open but not give items (you probably have less than 2 free slots on the hotbar).
We will fix the bugs in the coming hours!
Also there is no balance right now, we finalized the mechanics in the last minutes of publishing. I hope you will appreciate other aspects of the game!

Visually gorgeous, it reminds me a lot of Barotrauma's art style and animation. But as cool as the concept is, the game has issues: it seems like you can't die, and the enemies turning around from their head makes you get stuck in their collisions sometimes, not to mention that it looks a bit jarring. Also, I didn't feel a sense of progression, the decor, enemies and items feel like they never change, is the whole game a loop?

@leophyte Thanks for the feedback! Pushing enemies is a bug that we didn't notice, as well as immortality, we will fix it soon! The game does loop, the locations around the character change, but we didn't have time to do the progression, the game is mostly randomized

I really like the artwork, but I can't understand the goal. My cool sub keeps making noises but I can't use any of my inventory items to help. Could you give some pointers on what I was doing wrong? I really want to be able to fully enjoy this game.

@ljg there is no main goal as such in the game (we didn't get to finish the ending). In this game you just survive in a random locationWe just now noticed that the backlighting of the buttons does not work, in the coming hours we will release a patch and it will be clearer!

The following bugs have been fixed:
1. character immortality caused by missing death screen
2. lack of indication on repair buttons caused by incorrect layer grouping
3. pushing by enemies caused by incorrect collider
4. Infinite oxygen problem, due to missing variable
5. No loot in containers if player doesn't have enough inventory slots
6. Too small ship menu
7. Sound problems related to loop in sound effects
missing sounds for some items and buttons

Thanks for playing our game and leaving your feedback! <3

Beautiful game! At first I thought I was an astronaut, but then a giant fish swam by and I realized I was actually on the bottom of a sea. The Environment looks gorgeous. The darkness penetrated the lonely torchlight and the music provide a really spooky mood.

This is a pretty fun and interesting game! Even though it doesn't really have an ending, I still enjoyed it's overall atmosphere, art and presentation. You did really well on that! I wish you luck on your next jams!

The mood and ambient sound build up some really creepy atmosphere, I love it. I couldn't really figure out what to do and after a while I heard some sort of alarm and even though I applied oxygen and got some in the O2 tank, I still died - wasn't clear why. The graphics are consistent and make it all fit together, really great work on the skeletal animation. The creatures are so scary! Great job!

@marudziik Perhaps you have stumbled upon a bug that we have not seen, in idea each sound of the ship is responsible for its own button and has a direct relation to it (for example, the sound of bubbles is a waste of oxygen, the sound of cracking wiring - a waste of energy), in theory in the boat can not die, but you can die playing as a person, for example from pressure (barometer to the left of the objects) or oxygen. They have sound effects too.
Nevertheless, Thanks a lot feedback! We are very happy that you enjoyed our game!

The art and atmosphere are amazing! The only issues I had with the game were the slow acceleration of the character, and that the music and sounds were very quiet. Overall great concept and core gameplay, I would love to see this developed further.

VERY cool art. I loved the submarine design, and the creatures were super cool. A little lacking in gameplay, but O could see the bones of a few different systems and know how hard it is to get everything you want into a jam. Wasn't really sure where to go, but since there's no endgame, I assume that's just part of it. Anyway, the mood was impeccable. Very creepy.

It's atmospheric and good looking but had some graphical flickers. Might be a lighting thing because it happened while I was swinging my light around like a maniac. Definitely enjoyed the variety of creatures.

Also running up against the mechanics. Oxygen worked well enough but eventually my inventory filled up with a REPAIR item and one other thing I couldn't identify. After a while, a repeating warning noise started playing and I wasn't sure what it meant - it played for a while before killing me though. Eventually my screen went red and I died but I still had oxygen and wasn't sure what killed me.

The game's presentation is remarkable, and you'd struggle to find one with a greater atmosphere in line with the jam's theme. Trying to figure out the enemies' behaviour and watching them creepily make their way towards me must have been the best part of it all.

Sadly, you're as good as dead once an enemy spots you. In my experience, they continue chasing you even after you get into the submarine. It seems like you're expected to distance yourself from the creatures by a great deal, which wouldn't be an issue, if the aforementioned submarine's movement didn't have a tendency to break down, robbing you of your only way out of the situation.

Other than that, all I can say is, I wish that Thallas could have gotten some more features! It would have been nice to see some sort of goal to work towards, even if it was to be completely arbitrary due to time constraints.

The art in this game is absolutely beautiful! At first, I wasn’t quite sure which objects were interactive. I tried interacting with some special-looking items, but nothing happened — and then I got killed by the fish.

On my second try, I learned to hide inside the boat, but whenever the fish approached, it would bug out and clip into the boat. Once it was stuck like that, I’d die as soon as I stepped outside. Despite that, the overall experience was still really interesting.

On my third try, I finally realized I was supposed to go right, not left. Going right triggered the parts of the boat that were missing a medkit or oxygen, and I found supplies like those on the right side. Using the flashlight to search for items and then using them to repair the boat made the gameplay feel much more complete.

Later, I ran into the giant fish again — it got stuck in my boat and wouldn’t leave. Just as I reached what looked like an important control panel and was about to grab something, I stepped out and died.

Still, the experience was a lot of fun, and the art was truly fantastic. Keep up the great work!

@jimiasoph ,You don't really have to move in one particular direction, the environment around you changes within a few screens, so if you see a monster in front of you, you can run in the opposite direction and you'll find yourself in a new place. It's just a matter of whether or not you can see the loot you need ahead, whether or not it's worth taking a chance on the monster. About the interactivity of the environment you are right, interactive only boxes in the foreground and various objects flying in the water or lying on the ground. We didn't have time to make this point well, so it can feel a bit confusing. Thanks a lot for the feedback and compliments! We are pleased that you liked the game!

Oh, the game definitely has atmosphere — that’s for sure! I think it’s largely thanks to the great sound design and lighting effects. The shark, constantly trying to strike the ship or eat the player, really adds a creepy and exciting touch! And the various medkits/heals... they really encourage you to leave the ship in search of bonuses :) I really enjoyed the game! I’d love to see more content in the future, of course — but all in good time :) For a jam game, it’s really well done! Thank you so much for the game and all your hard work!

Mood/Atmosphere were amazing. Here's how my gameplay experience went:
- Swim up off the screen assuming there might be more stuff "up". Camera tries to follow me, starts moving up with me. I swim back down, camera doesn't come all the way down, I can't see myself, so I refresh the page.
- Swimming along, find some oxygen tanks and repair kits. Oh, cool, a fish thing. OW, he bit me... OW! "YOU DEAD"
- Swimming some more, avoid the cool looking fish thing. Can't figure out what else to do. Get eaten by an even BIGGER fish thing. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I liked the graphics and sound, and I see from the comments that it looks like you didn't get to finish the ending, so that explains why I didn't know what else to do. Good job on what you got so far!

Great atmosphere + art!! At one point, a fish came to me and while trying to dodge it, somehow it got attached to me (literally), and started spinning in circles with the character as the pivot. Even when I moved the character which seemed really strange IMO.

Really really good art and ambience! I'm surprised with the level of quality of the art here, certainly one of the best I've seen all jam. And the music and sound effects were excellent too, I think you succeeded with the spooky deep sea vibe. It's unfortunate that you were not able to finish it, it would have been great to see where you wanted to go with this gameplay-wise!
