Abyss Base Crush by ted

[raw]
made by ted for Ludum Dare 57 (COMPO)

This is a fun little tower defense toy that doesn't take too long to play. Waves of enemies will come in to attack. After your automated turrets fend them off, select an upgrade or repair, and keep going until the central hub is destroyed.

There's not a lot of interactivity, sorry. There are two systems I didn't get to fully finish: robots that navigate through the base to do repairs (but are lost if the section explodes), and a heavy cannon controlled by the user.

Not a compo winner by any means, but it ain't all that bad, either.

You might want to put this on itch.io, the ludum dare window is struggling to not cutoff parts of your game, at least for me. (I'm on firefox, idk if that matters)

The effects of the bubbles coming up at the camera were really cool - it almost offsets the pain of losing a section of your base.

I actually liked the minimalism aspects of it - only having to make a choice between an upgrade or healing instead of worrying about money felt nice for a game jam scope.

It was tough to tell the impact of the different upgrades. I think having the health of the enemies visible would have helped with that. After several early losses, I eventually went full in on damage and that proved to be the best approach.

Overall, good work! I got really close to 1 million points:

Nice little defense game, where you mostly choosing upgrades and watch outcomes. I think best result are when you first go for damage and gun count upgrades, then going with Piercing and RoF. Nice touch with bursting air bubbles and splats from creatures!
