A Mining Game by Bewelge

[raw]
made by Bewelge for Ludum Dare 57 (COMPO)

A simple mining game where you dig deeper and deeper to collect ever more valuable ores.

Sell those Ores to upgrade different skills allowing you to mine even deeper!

Use Arrow keys or WASD to move your player.

Created in Vanilla Javascript/Typescript. I tried using AI for art, but it looked even worse than the little figures I ended up drawing myself. The tile textures are all procedurally generated at runtime.

I did use quite a bit of Claude for Coding but that's simply how I work nowadays. I attempted to let it create the main scaffolding of the game but that never worked since it always got something wrong that would've been more work refactoring than doing it myself.

I barely finished the the base game in time. I really want to add some storyline, ending with finding some target item all the way at the bottom. As of now, there's no real point to keep going after you've purchased all the upgrades.

With all that being said: I hope you enjoy the game and thanks for playing!

Nice concept! I completede the game on day 7, really funny to play. The power ups make a huge difference very soon, for the game jam is nice, but maybe for future upgrades it could be nice rebalancing.
Nice job!

Very cute game, I enjoyed mining resources and improving my character. Great job! I would have liked to be able to dig upwards, though I can see why you decided to scrap the idea. A couple of the tails under the stores should probably be made indestructible. Since the game doesn't have an endless mode, it would be great to have a simple score system and compete with friends to see who can get the most resources in 7 days.

It's like that good old motherload flash game (or "a game about digging a hole" more recently), nice that you've made this in such a short amount of time ! Adding a twist to the gameplay would have make it a unique game :)

Wooo for Motherload-likes! I'm not biased at all

Very nice, you got much farther into making an actual game than I did!

I do think you might have missed applying deltatime on the movement/dig speeds, I have a 165Hz screen and my dude was flying right off the bat, cross the map in 10 seconds. With the level 1 mining upgrade I would already accidentally dig new tunnels when trying to navigate existing ones.
