Release the Monster by MiniBobbo

[raw]
made by MiniBobbo for LD33 (JAM)
Dr. Destructo is ANGRY! He had a perfect plan but it was ruined because of his INCOMPETENT MINIONS! What is a mad genius to do?

Summon a monster to investigate and destroy any minions who messed up the plan!

Release the Monster is a point and click adventure game in the style of the old Lucas Arts adventure games (Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, etc). It is a complete games with a variety of puzzles (the hardest one has the option of just skipping it if you are feeling lame), 5 minions to investigate, and annoying sounds.

This game was made with Adventure Game Studio, so unfortunately is only available for Windows. Sorry OSX and Linux users!

Gameplay is easy. Right click to cycle through actions (walk, talk, interact, read mind, destroy, etc.). Press escape to bring up the menu. When you are done talk to Dr Destructo to get your score. The highest possible score is 5.

Everything was created within the jam timeframe. This would have been a compo entry if it wasn't for a work project...

Hi all wanting a web build.

You and me both... Unfortunately Adventure Game Studio only compiles to Windows. I think I could get it to Linux, but the OS/X ports don't work with the updated OS. Something with Allegro 3 incompatibility (what AGS is built on).

I wish I could do something other than Windows only, but not possible. Maybe if I get a custom adventure game engine written before the next Ludum Dare...

Great job, I dig it!

This plays in Linux under WINE.

I liked the concept, monster-as-detective was an interesting twist. I'm not sure what the point of the beds puzzle was, and I have no idea if I was right or wrong, but the interactions were amusing and everything was very well written.

Pretty cool game! The mistery got me really hooked on it! The dialogues are pretty funny too. The game crashed on me the first time though!

The dialogue was quite funny, I enjoyed the parody of cartoonish villain plans.
I felt a little bad I fried the first dude without any proof, but at least the game provided me with an excuse afterwards. :D

This game is great! I kept hearing the master speak in James Avery's voice every time he spoke. I want more from these characters! Well... the remaining ones.

@wolvesbaneteam Whoops! You weren't supposed to be able to fry Leo until after you had proof but I turned on the guilty flag to quickly test the summoning circle code and I forgot to turn it off before submitting! Good catch! I've fixed it and will upload the replacement this evening. Thanks for playing!

@emptyrealhell. The bed puzzle is actually useless in the game currently up tthere because you need to solve it to prove Leo is guilty. However since I forgot to reset the Leo guilty flag the game just assumes he is guilty without the puzzle being solved. The latest version will fix this.

This is a great reason to not do all your testing and submitting late at night because you miss little things like this.

Thanks for all the kind comments and suggestions everyone!

Cute, funny, interesting to play !
I had to start over the game to see the ending because I didn't kill the minions immediately : I came to see Dr Destructo before and it ended the game.
