Lift by Mikan

[raw]
made by Mikan for Ludum Dare 57 (JAM)

This game is a puzzle game.
You need to escape from the dungeon. You can use magic to lift crates, but unfortunately you can't lift yourself.

Made for Ludum Dare 57.
Made with Puzzlescript Next.

In fact, I missed the start time of the Ludum Dare event, so I had to give up many interesting ideas and keep the game mechanics simple.
Fortunately, I finally finished it (maybe) and only spent a total of ~12 hours developing it.

Love the simplicity of it, I couldn't here any music or sound in the background, not sure if this is intentional

Love the game's art style! Level 3 is way too hard for me💀

@angry-fridge: The game only has some simple sound effects, no BGM
@slow-chaz: Thanks for playing!
@sqqqwer: You're right. The level is too hard in this order, and there's a red herring in it. I'll insert a simpler intro level.

Really liked this one, and I could definitely play a full version of it!

It defeated me at the last stacking level where you have to get 5 high - all of the other puzzles were real head scratchers and had a couple of us stumped for a bit!

Big thumbs up!

Great puzzle solving! I quickly understood the rules of being able to stay in the air. This reminds me of a gravity based snake game

Good game! Lift 4 is really difficult for me and I had to skip :)

I may not have gone far enough, but I don't really see the connection with the theme. Afterwards, I like this kind of puzzle game, but maybe it needs a little more feedback for the players and a little help to understand.

@pavlov36 @plidomo @zjuwindking @stormouse-indie: Thanks for playing!
@piero-pbes-studio: As is well known, a theme is just a source of inspiration.
My initial idea was that characters could lift the blocks under their feet and continuously move deeper. But later it was discovered that this was not interesting enough, and instead made it fun for the characters to climb up by building blocks. So in each level of the game, the character is in a deep position, and the player needs to find a way to climb to a higher exit and eventually return to the ground.

It's really amazing to complete so many levels with different mechanics in such a short time. The color scheme is very pleasant. The levels are difficult, but I really enjoy them.

Ah man this is fantastic! I've seen platformer-like mechanics in puzzlescript before but this one manages to expand on the idea in a really satisfying way. everything makes sense logically (in a puzzle context anyway) and solutions feel totally natural. It gets really tricky towards the end! the stair stacking puzzles at the end were probably my favorite, there's so many things that need to be considered in order to construct a solution. The final gimmick at the end was also clever. I'm interested to see what other sorts of ideas you had! Really great entry, niuce job :)

(ps i really enjoy all the videos you make on puzzle games! I end up finding so many hidden gems from you showcasing them, so thank you!)

Nice! Good use of emergent game mechanics from simple elements :) Would have been cool to see the puzzle design to incorporate the theme a bit more (e.g. by having puzzles that go downwards instead of sideways)

Cool little puzzle game. Got stuck on the level in the second screenshot, but it's 2am so I no brain good.

The lift mechanic felt a bit kludgey at times as you had to sometimes move back a tile to push it in air, and it's never super clear when you need to do this outside of trial and error.

Each puzzle felt like an iteration on the last, and the introduction of new mechanics helps keep it fresh. nice work!

A quite clever sokoban! :) Had a great trouble figuring out how to handle the magic, but it was overall a really pleasant experience! Super simple and elegant! The art is quite nice, I only missed a soundtrack to contribute a lil to the mood. But was a really nice experience! The puzzle designs were really good and the controls were very crispy. I loved the effect of the gravity working on turns, that was a wonderful idea!

Great entry overall! Thank you for the game.

Very nice, the almost "turn by turn" physics takes some time to get used to, but once you get used to it, the game is pretty neat and the puzzles are nice and clever. Simple but efficient presentation.
