More in depth by enmarimo

[raw]
made by enmarimo for Ludum Dare 57 (JAM)

A game where you have to go more in depth to solve puzzles and complete the levels*.

The game is made with Godot Engine. My first time using it, and I am surprisingly pleased. I will use it more from now on.

As usual, the jam didn't go as expected. Initially I had different ideas, I wanted to make an adventure game using some mechanics derived from different meanings of depth, but ended up with something quite different (though the main mechanic is more or less the same).

Overall I'm satisfied as this time I submitted a "full" game, with menus, audio and a whole level. Good enough for the first Ludum Dare. Let's see if I can make it better the next time.

*I say it in plural but there is only one level. I didn't have time to integrate everything and packed only what was working so I could submit it in time.

I was a little sad to only see one level, but it's a neat concept nonetheless!

Cool idea! I would like to see how far this concept take you, but just with the first level, the idea is pretty clear.

Cool idea, and the ability to control camera such accurately is very nice touch. I was disappointed when the "next level" button didn't work. 2d and 3d combination is very essense of gamedevelopers moving from 2d to 3d.

Sad there is only one level, but the idea is nice... don't know it there any case the realy needs to return to 2d space, but the transition is interesting. Good luck next time

Cool idea! Love how it turns into 3D. When I died it didn't seem to restart though. Would love to see more levels. Well done

You have the makings of a really good game. Great start. Kind of like a platformer in 3D. If you are using Godot you should look into 3D grid map. It would be perfect for what you are trying to do.

Love the unique take on the theme! Would be really cool to have to continue to switch the depth to complete different stages of the puzzle.

Thank you all for the kind words!

@zedgame @leperidot @tero-pulkkinen @joey-vrij @howtobehayes there will be more levels! At least I want to implement some ideas I had during the jam (but didn't had time to implement)

@beebster-games Thanks! I will take a look at it.

@ilya-damyan yes, there will be situations that can only be completed in 2D (like a platform that's too far away in 3D)

@moogs yeah, that's the idea!

@clymm true... I forgot to add a restart when the cube falls

Creative interpretation of the theme, and an interesting proof-of-concept! I loved Fez and this kind of puzzles remind me of that gem of a game, so waiting with interest to see what kinds of puzzles you can cook up.

A solid entry, good work! <3

P.O.C. nice work think there is something here. like the transparent view when you are behind a block would also be nice if some blocks don't have that as a challenge :)
