Time Spill by Chronodrax

[raw]
made by Chronodrax for LD33 (COMPO)
You are the Wheel of Time.
People want to stop you.
Crush their hopes.

----

For this Ludum Dare, I've added an extra challenge to myself : create a game that would require only the mouse wheel to play, and it worked !
I hope you'll enjoy playing it ;)

Sadly there's only 1 level since I spent most of the time improving the Level Design and gameplay (physics behavior, feedback, etc).

---

Made with Unity 5;
Music made with Audiotool, sounds with bfxr.

CHROME VERSION (WebGL) : www.teradem.net/LD/TimeSpill/WebGL/index.html

edit : It seems that mac users have an issue with the mouse wheel. I don't own a mac though so it's hard to debug. If you are a Mac user, can you please tell me more about it ? Is it on the web player only or the downloadable/executable too ? On the latter, have you tried changing the controls ?

Other known bugs :
- Too many creatures spawn after 400 seconds
- For unknown reasons the wheel could get stuck between a ceiling and a creature without killing it, and make movements impossible.
I'll improve those in a post-compo version after the judging ends.

Lovely game! I just think that scrolling the wheel get's a little tiring from time to time (love the idea of using it though!).

Perhaps using both mouse buttons or the X of the mouse when clicking would be better?

Very original input scheme! The art and music is also nice. Level was a bit hard to get around in.

Interesting mechanic and it works surprisingly well. The physics also made this more fun.

I did get tired of spinning the wheel so much however and a backup control system with keyboard (left/right keys) would have been nice.

Nice work!

I'd be nice to include keyboard controls too... I don't have a mousewheel on my laptop!

The mouse wheel didn't work for me. I'm on a MacBook and have a wireless mouse.

Felt like cheating since my mouse has an unlockable wheel, but it sure made it fun. It's definitely a great start to something, with enough content and polish I could see this becoming something akin to katamari.

This is a blast to play with a free spinning weighted mouse wheel. I think this is the first time I have seen this type of control. Really well executed. Top marks for innovation. The music is well done too. Super neato.

Took a while to get used the control scheme, but the idea is actually pretty damn cool. I think the physics worked really well for the controls as well.

I like a lot the controls! It's quite original! The game itself is nice,

Maybe a final objective other than gathering score would be nice, or maybe put some traps so you can die.

Really liked it :)

The gameplay novelty blew me away. For a good couple minutes. Scrolling is hard work.

I really enjoyed. It was comfortable that a wheel moves along a line. I got 86pt in 354 time. Very fun!

I really liked the idea of the scroll wheel. The game was altogether very fun to play. My only problem with it, was near the end, I had loads of little guys standing around, and it got really laggy.

That's pretty innovated, I'm glad I have a scrollwheel. It's like some weird version of pinball, pretty addictive.

I enjoyed rolling around the platforms with only the mouse wheel! I also liked the sound effects.

However, if you play long enough, the people seem to multiply quickly and slows down the game a lot. But that only happens after playing the game for about 10 minutes.

I did like that the health was integrated into the player and the colors change among the people when they want to throw a bomb.

Nice work!
