Corrupt Ground by LukeZaz

[raw]
made by LukeZaz for LD33 (JAM)
A turn-based strategy game where you play as a form of corruption attempting to take over the land, fighting another form of corruption for territory while attempting to destroy it by destroying its core via either corrupting it or killing it using your units.

I ran out of time and as such there is no sound and the UI is very unfinished. Additionally, the AI is also incomplete and currently just defends its core very lightly while spreading outward.

Due to the aforementioned AI, I highly recommend playing with someone else if you can.

Instructions:
W A S D to move camera. Click a tile to do when a tooltip appears to do what it describes if you can afford it. Kill enemy core to win - there is no ending UI, so if the game ends, the game will jump back to the menu.

Click on any of your corrupted tiles to spawn a unit of yours. This will cost 4 points to do.

Interesting. I played a match but the game didn't tell me whether or not I won.

Fun, though I can't click on the boxes under the menu. (WebGL)

Interesting little game, does the spread of your corruption change how many action points you get? The AI didn't seem to build any units which was a shame. Still impressive work done here! :D

Idea is good. But I do not see feedback for my actions. And my core is gray (appreciate if I can see it in center of screen). Does not know how to move skeletons. And death animation of player/enemy is appreciated.

Win/Lose text is very helpful though.

Good game idea. Tune some ai and feedback and it will be fine to play with.

Interesting game, definitely needs that win screen though otherwise you feel like it bugged out.

I generally like virus style games. But I don't think I understood what was going on here. Looks like there is a solid base for something here..I think the lack of feedback for what I was trying to do is what confused me.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Ptolo - In this version of the game, no. I'd planned for being able to capture 'sub-cores' that would increase your points per turn, but units ended up being such a buggy mess to implement that I couldn't possibly get to it. You currently only get 12 points from your core per turn.

Anyway, expect a post-compo version sometime around when the judging period ends. I'll be fixing up everything I couldn't get to, adding an extra feature or two and with any luck I'll finally be able to kick out the WebGL bug that's been plaguing my games too.

Interesting idea, it could be fun to play when it is a little more flushed out and the AI is a little smarter.

Interesting concept, seems like it was supposed to something in the vein of othello? It was hard to tell because the feedback wasn't very informative, it seems like it could have used more polish, though you already mentioned that in the description. Despite the flaws, it's a good start to something.

Aw man, I wish you had time to finish this game, because the setup seems pretty cool. I think with a more polished UI and better AI, this could really be quite fun!

I played 1-player mode with the incomplete AI, but the tile/corruption system seems pretty solid! Nicely done, hope you get to finish this!

Nice game. Skeleton only hurt 2 point? It makes game slow...

Good thinking on making a strategy turn based game, love the idea. It's also great that you can play 2 people at the same time! If you decide to keep developing the game, different maps would take the strategy factor to a whole new level.

This was interesting, but the lack of feedback made it difficult to appreciate. I think that's what everyone else is saying, so at least that's consistent! ^o^//

This is a really interesting entry. Loved the core concept and gameplay mechanic and I'm sure this could be polished into an incredibly fun 2P game.

Turn-based strategy is something that I don't see around often, and this entry in particular has a ton of potential to be awesome. It's a real pity that you didn't have enough time to add audio, better AI, and polish the UI, but you did a great job nonetheless. Kudos!

This was a fun game, but needs some polishing (e.g. better AI, maybe you should move the camera after each turn to the next player's base.

Interesting, well made game. I included it in part 30 of my Ludum Dare 33 Compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/aghqdpQgwgA
