Back in the saddle!

I'd been away from game development for over a year until this afternoon. It feels great to finally be back at it! I'm stoked another Ludum Dare has lined up with my schedule - number 2!

The first thing I tackled after the theme announcement was figuring out a decent conceptual match. I landed on a platformer where most of the blocks quickly "decay" after you touch them. Players who don't make quick (and good) decisions will find themselves quickly "running out of space" and falling to their doom!

In terms of controls, I'm really trying to keep things simple. I only want to have two movement buttons and a single action button. My overall idea has some similarities with a mobile tower climbing game idea I've thought about in the past, so a personal side-goal of mine for this Ludum Dare is to make something that feels good on mobile.

At just shy of 12 hours in, I'm reasonably happy with my current progress. I split the rest of my time between:

  • Getting started on a tileset
  • Figuring out game mechanics, and starting to work on a bit of implementation
  • Familiarizing myself with a year+ of Unity updates ๐Ÿ˜›

It's bedtime for me now, back at it in a few hours! ๐Ÿ•น๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ˜ด
