Stretching Into the Jam

The compo is over, and I've got almost all of my entire game complete.

Or so I wish I could say. Instead, I can say all of the UI is done, all of the menus are done, all of the menu polish/juice is done, control rebinding is set up, and all of the gameplay is done. Everything is as it should be. There's even pools for sound effect sources and items. All of the underlying systems are in place, and the game is starting to feel good despite the very limited number of items in the game, lack of juice in the gameplay, and lack of anything visually interesting.

So now I have to make all of the sound effects, make the art for everything, and create some music somehow. If I have time I'll add some minor animations and particle effects.

One of the funniest experiences to me so far has been watching my programming habits deteriorate into spaghetti as time goes on. There's some stuff I'm very happy with, while some other classes exist partially because I didn't have time to refactor as much as I needed to as I pivoted on how all my different internal systems would be designed and interact.

Every so often I'd produce some wonderfully generic solution that can be used outside of this jam, and half the time I'd then later ruin it with random game-specific bits and do-dads because I was not about to spend a half hour rethinking the entire solution.

But I haven't shown anything here. I've posted some GIFs on twitter (@JesterSeraph), but not here. If you're curious why, it's because I can't upload anything larger than 4MB here, but my GIFs are all over that so I can't show anything. Once I get some art and sound effects, maybe then I'll have something to show!

Now then, I have to get back to work if I want to finish this at all!
