The Good: I kicked the negativity and learned some new techniques through the last 48 hours of making my game. I am proud to have built something that is playable and can be enjoyed. I knew going in that whatever the theme was I would make it into a board game. I had such a panic when the theme was running out of space. Then the idea hit me, a lot of games often have inventory management issues so maybe a game centered on that.

The last 12 hours or so I was very focused. I finished bringing all the critical features together and replaced out all the junky art assets with some okay looking ones. Except for the tiles though, I entirely forgot about them.

I tried to incorporate more advanced methods for managing my classes and data, from a learning standpoint that is a good thing as if I understand how to do something better it will help me more in the long run.

The Okay: I spent the first day entirely wrapped up in building the foundation. I also spent more time than I should on non-critical features, but seemed small enough at the time. I think I cut the extra features down a lot during the planning phase and others turned out to be more difficult than I initially thought. The game works from start to end, at least from my own plays.

The Bad: The sad part about my game is it's really barebones. The player doesn't get a lot of influence over the results of the game. My designs included ways for the player to influence their chances of winning however there simply was not enough time to get all those features in. A board game was not the best choice for a 48 hour compo, perhaps if I chose the 72 hour version I'd have something more complex to show but I'm stubborn and always shoot for the 48 hour compo.

Conclusion: I had fun, and finished a playable game. I know not to expect a lot of good reviews since it's entirely luck based with the mechanics that it has now. I told myself I'd make a board game and I did. I actually like the prototype I ended up with from this compo, I might take the time to clean up the messy code and finish this game.

Hope you enjoy, and good luck to the Jam developers that are still coding away.
