Did I expect it? Was I ready for what this game was about to become? And, over all, was this game eventually meant to collapse?\n\n# The Game:\n\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=a-pzHG1nQjc\n\n# Timelapse (x100):\n\nIf you are interested more in a video than text, here you go:\n\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FH3sev6YSmQ\n\n## Tools Used:\n\nConstruct 2, BFXR, Audacity, Adobe Photoshop, FL Studio\n\n# The Idea:\n\nEarlier, the idea was to make the a full version of the Multicolor Maze from Undertale.\n\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_oQVVISpRbI\n\nHowever, after terribly failing with this idea, I was left with nothing. \n\n![vlcsnap-2018-08-25-17h18m31s207.png](\/\/\/raw\/3c4\/2\/z\/1a746.png)\n\nI came upon an idea of a simple platformer where a wall would chase you and you would have to reach the end goal. After some quick tests, I had a prototype ready. After a while, it was decided that the level would shrink evenly and you would have to reach the centre of the level, the \"core\". The game was eventually named Collapse.\n\n![vlcsnap-2018-08-25-17h18m55s198.png](\/\/\/raw\/3c4\/2\/z\/1a747.png)\n\n# What went right?\n\n## The Gameplay:\n\nPhysics and Primitive Geometric Shapes! Who knew that these two combined in a platformer could be this fun? The gameplay feels natural, and as the levels get harder and music starts pumping in, you feel more and more engrossed into the game.\n\n## The Highscore System:\n\nAdded as an afterthought, I'm still competing with my brother to see who gets the better of it!\n\n## The Music:\n\nAs many have told me, the music comfortably matches the levels! When a level is going to be hard and fast, you can tell it, just by hearing the music!\n\n## The Humor and The Story:\n\nInserting an idea last minute is bad, but I needed a story to string the gameplay together, and, apparently, it all worked better than I could have imagined! That's rare in the world of game design.\n\n## Staying Simple!:\n\nMy previous idea was overly complicated. Staying with the basic tools and getting it working on a small scale first helped me finish what could've been a total disaster!\n\n# What went wrong?\n\n## The First Idea:\n\nAs I mentioned, I threw an entire prototype into trash. Could have saved me 3-4 hours, and could've been used to resolve other issues. Never settle on idea too fast.\n\n## The Audio Mixing:\n\nThe voice acting is too low, compared to the sound effects, which are too high. The music, however, is a perfect between the two.\n\n## The Crashes:\n\nThe game crashes after you restart a level too much (due to some physics glitch which I haven't figured out yet). However, the Load Game feature that I managed to get working allows you to continue without losing progress!\n\n# What's Next?\n\nThis game turned out to be a lot of fun, and, I have plans for a possible post jam version! Plus, it's time for me to rate ~50 games!\n\n## Level Editor:\n\nThis could let you all easily create levels to share with others, and, let me to create levels without using the editor and banging my head around.\n\n![vlcsnap-2018-08-25-17h19m30s035.png](\/\/\/raw\/3c4\/2\/z\/1a748.png)\n\n## Better Audio Mixing and Effects:\n\nAs I stated, the audio in the game does make it lose a few points. A post jam version would of course have to address those issues.\n\n## Polish:\n\nThis game was small and polished. However, such a game on a post jam version would require a lot more of it, including the fixing of the crashes.\n\n![vlcsnap-2018-08-25-17h20m19s155.png](\/\/\/raw\/3c4\/2\/z\/1a749.png)\n\n\n# What can you readers do to help me out?\n\nYou can play the game and rate it! https:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/42\/collapse-1\n\nYou are also welcome to link to your own games and\/or timelapses\/post mortems!","comments":0,"created":"2018-08-25T11:30:17Z","files":[],"files-timestamp":0,"id":118426,"love":1,"love-timestamp":"2018-08-25T13:54:39Z","meta":[],"modified":"2018-08-25T13:54:39Z","name":"Collapse - A Post Mortem","node-timestamp":"2018-08-25T12:03:10Z","parent":104681,"parents":[1,5,9,97793,104681],"path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/42\/collapse-1\/collapse-a-post-mortem","published":"2018-08-25T12:03:10Z","scope":"public","slug":"collapse-a-post-mortem","subsubtype":"","subtype":"","type":"post","version":354817},"node_metadata":{"n_key":"118426","n_urlkey":"337563","n_parent":"104681","n_path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/42\/collapse-1\/collapse-a-post-mortem","n_slug":"collapse-a-post-mortem","n_type":"post","n_subtype":"","n_subsubtype":"","n_author":"9411","n_created":"1535196617","n_modified":"1535205279","n_version":"354817","n_status":"WAYBACK"},"source_url":"https:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/42\/collapse-1\/collapse-a-post-mortem","text":"Collapse, the game I made for Ludum Dare 42 (Compo), turned out to be more fun than I expected?
