To jam or not to Jam.

Okay. I really want to compete in this jam. I absolutely love the idea I came up with for the theme. I know how I want to build it. I know what I can do instead to reasonably get a game done. HOWEVER. I thought jam was next week. This is literally my busiest weekend all month. I've already been up for almost 36 hours. So I'll post my idea and hopefully, maybe I can get through my other work and take a shot at doing the compo Starting like Saturday at 9.

So. Idea. Sat here for several moments trying to come up with a name. I settled on One Must Die. The idea was that the game was going to be an epic fantasy adventure. You would start out a young hero with this elder mentor. You've known him your whole life and he has slowly been preparing you for your destiny to save the world. The time has come and you set out to right some evil, slay some beast.

SPOILERS FOR PLOT TWIST GAME AHEAD

You spend the first part of the game traveling, dealing with small monsters. Your mentor has the role of healer. Eventually you get to some artifact you need to complete your quest. You kill a boss and think this is it. I've won the thing. Victory. Except it won't activate. You ask your mentor and he informs you, it needs a sacrifice. And he does it so you can claim the orb. As he dies he sends you towards the second.

You end up in the minotaurs maze. I had this idea for a crazy chase sequence where your run through corridors and it smashes through the walls to get you. Eventually end up in a large room where you fight him. You beat him and the cut scene continues the fight. You drop some mento from your mentor.pun The minotaur recognizes it and stops.

He apologizes. Shares some stories. Takes you to the center where second artifact is stored. On way he acts as supermuscle killing stuff for you. Center is guarded by some hulking death trap. He holds it open so you can clear out some mooks and open the door. Cutscene you realize the door is too small for minotaur. He was cursed to never leave the maze, never see the prize. He kicks you through the door as he looses his grip on the machine and he dies for you.

You take the device/artifact thing. The maze collapses dumping you in the ocean. You end up on the ocean floor and can breathe thanks to the thing you collected. Magic. yeah. This is where idea gets a little fuzzy. Great sea serpent is going to be third mentor. She dies for you. Then fourth I don't know what.

Eventually you get to the end of your quest. You have the four things you need to defeat evil. You walk into sacred temple. You place you world saving things in their place, turn to find the world ending monster, and nothing. You walk around for a moment and the spirits of your 4 mentors show up. One must die. Not any of them. You. you are the world ending evil. Or at least you will be. You have to die to save the world. All their sacrifices were so you could make yours. And they couldn't tell you or you wouldn't go through with it.

Eventually I want there to be achoice. Do you follow through. or forge your own path. I'd want two different boss fights here depending on the option you chose.

....

Yeah. that's a little much for the jam. Thats a whole lot of nope for the compo. That's a whole lot of nope for me solo normally. So, at the very least I got my concept somewhat on paper and maybe I can do a little work on it. Thanks for the idea!
