Slaughter post mortem
well...

I kept ~3% of the themes this time. Here's why.
In my opinion, a good theme is one that allows for interpretation while still giving some form of restriction. A great theme lets the game creator decide how the theme restricts him. Those kind of themes always lead to the most interesting games - you get to explore how the game maker included the theme in his game. However, this time, most of the themes felt way too open (for example things like "Platformer" or "2D") while others were way too restricting in one way that could not be interpreted (themes defining the genre, setting or gameplay like "Only two buttons", "One color" or "Battle Royale").
Some of the themes also made no sense at all. When I read things like this:

...what kind of game am I supposed to make based on this? I get that some people write these as jokes, but it doesn't really help anyone.
...aaaaanyway, let's now get to some positive notes.
Most of the themes I upvoted were really damn good. I really love when a game can get meta and tries to break the fourth wall and there were plenty of themes for just that. But there were also some great themes that give you an interesting opener to a game without restricting any of your gameplay or story development. I really enjoyed themes like "You end at the beginning" because while it gives you a definitive direction and target, the way to that goal, your gameplay, your style, your storytelling and everything else is your job. You can still tell your story the way you want to tell it. And the theme also allows for interpretation. Themes like these are brilliant in my opinion and I really hope that we get a theme everyone can interpret and adapt for their own personal game.
tl;dr while most themes were pretty random or kinda weak this time, some of them were really damn good.
