L.Y.L.A. - A game that was more fun developing than playing

This year was rough for me. Pretty rough. But here I am. LD44 meant a lot to me, because it was the first time in 2019 that actually worked out as planned. I managed to stay focused. My scope was realistic-ish, even though I had to scrap some content for the sake of releasing it as a compo game. The result looks and feels good enough for my own taste. It runs pretty solid. But it is far from perfect.

One honest review (and I am thankful for those) came in already and I have to fully agree: The content isn't fun. Maybe I wanted it to be too edgy. Maybe I had to put my feelings out there somehow. I don't know. And I haven't slept enough to do a proper analysis.

What I can say however is on a very positive note: It was pure fun developing it. Making charts, writing code, improving it over time and seeing it grow was an experience I haven't had in a while. It reminded me of what I want to do in life. And why I love it. It felt good. And it made me feel alive.

I want to thank every single jammer here and on the Discord for being such an inspiring source of creativity.

For the next jam, as well as for some other ideas floating around, I am looking for regular collaborators. So if you like anything about L.Y.L.A. or just need someone who simply enjoys fiddling around in Unity and C#, let me know. I need more practice and projects under my belt.

If you are into text adventures / rpgs or just a mind experiment, feel free to have a look and rate L.Y.L.A. HERE

Keep on jammin',

Alexander 'Gruni' Grunert :)
