Before, I went with a partner, and took care of the audio-visual elements while he programmed and made all the logic stuff work. \n Even though we were pretty close to it, we didn't finish the game, nor did we upload it, and that made me very sad for it was my first, and I had big expectations.\n Fast forward to this Friday, Ludum Dare caught my attention, and I told to my self \"One more time\", but this time, I decided to do it all alone, and oh boy, was it hard, for not only did I have low experience regarding programming, but I had to split the time between developing the game, and other personal stuff (most probably, like everyone else here), thus I lost half a day, at a point, I even decided it was time to stop, that I've failed again and went to bed, but the next day came, and there i was continuing the development, until it was time to upload it.\n\n## The Idea\n\n So I went to my girlfriends home on Friday, and asked her to help me with and idea for a game related to the theme (Your life is currency), while I came up with the idea of having to buy upgrades for the character with your life points, which also determine how many times you can respawn, she came up with the hole concept:\n Mr. Apple, needs to escape from the hunters, and get to the forest, for they desire nothing but to take and drink our \n juicy blood.\n Well.. even though that's what I accomplished, the scope was way bigger:\n While Mr.Apple finds his way to the forest and avoids the hunters, he was to save other fruits, trapped ones, and ones \n that were being hunted, but that never made into the final game.\n\n## What went bad\n\n So, yeah, I knew it was going to be hard, but man it was even harder than what I've anticipated, not necessarily was it hard to make the game work you know? But mentally, it's a lot of pressure, and that's actually good.\n But back to the topic, I modeled, textured and animated the assets pretty quickly, and those were the first things I did after planning the game of course. Mid way into development, time to actually do it was hard to find, went to watch avengers (which is superb by the way), had some university things to do and obviously, spend some time with my girl, and some other stuff.. While I don't regret doing any of these things instead of developing the game, it costed quite a lot, for if I had used this time the quality of the final product would be much better, and specially, if I had been more careful, I wouldn't have to redo the hole menu systems in like, the last hour before having to upload the game. Yeah, that was pretty frustrating, but obviously my fault, as i didn't make the UI elements responsive, and when i made the build, buttons went all over the place, I thought i was going to use the last hour or so to generate the light maps so that the shadows would be calculated perfectly, well, that was never done too, for after I \"fixed\" the UI elements Unity decided it was time to crash, and for some reason, it corrupted one of my scripts, and I basically had to redo it too, the problem is, I had only about 5 minutes, so I decided to use a shortcut, and did some jerry-rigging, the problem with that, is well spoiler alert.. The vitality upgrade not only became useless but the player was now invincible, so the \"youDied\" menus i created and redid not long before this, were unused as well  Not only that, I didn't get to balance the Seed Gun upgrade, I was going to add a rate of fire, but completely forgot by the time i made the final build.\n## Could have been better, time to learn\n Yeah so, maybe being more careful and doing some better planning before actually making the game would have benefited me, but after all, it was very much worth it, and i'll take everything that I learned with me forever, from developing the game myself, and from seeing other people do it here.\n\n**Thank You**\n\n# The game:\n\nhttps:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/44\/apple-escape","comments":1,"comments-timestamp":"2019-04-30T05:00:47Z","created":"2019-04-30T03:01:38Z","files":[],"files-timestamp":0,"id":154620,"love":4,"love-timestamp":"2019-04-30T05:07:56Z","meta":[],"modified":"2019-04-30T13:07:04Z","name":"My first LD game, and first ever \"finished\" game :D","node-timestamp":"2019-04-30T13:07:04Z","parent":140243,"parents":[1,5,9,139254,140243],"path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/44\/apple-escape\/my-first-ld-game-and-first-ever-finished-game-d","published":"2019-04-30T04:12:15Z","scope":"public","slug":"my-first-ld-game-and-first-ever-finished-game-d","subsubtype":"","subtype":"","type":"post","version":463604},"node_metadata":{"n_key":"154620","n_urlkey":"347408","n_parent":"140243","n_path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/44\/apple-escape\/my-first-ld-game-and-first-ever-finished-game-d","n_slug":"my-first-ld-game-and-first-ever-","n_type":"post","n_subtype":"","n_subsubtype":"","n_author":"140242","n_created":"1556593298","n_modified":"1556629624","n_version":"463604","n_status":"WAYBACK"},"source_url":"https:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/44\/apple-escape\/my-first-ld-game-and-first-ever-finished-game-d","text":"![print.jpeg](\/\/\/raw\/2d3\/22\/z\/238f9.jpg)\n\n## The experience\n\n While i have previously participated in a Game Jam, this was by far, the actual experience i was looking for.
