I wanted to take this tile building concept and put it into a video game.\n\n![pic785236_md.jpg](\/\/\/raw\/09f\/61\/z\/24708.jpg)\n\nI am using game maker studio 2 and found a free extension that allows you to load rooms within rooms. It was designed for gms 1.4 so it was a bit of a hassle to work with but I got things working.\n\n### My first attempt with room dog\n![2019-04-26 21-35-26.gif](\/\/\/raw\/09f\/61\/z\/24706.gif)\n\n### Lets work on grid movement for tile placement\n\n![ezgif.com-optimize (1).gif](\/\/\/raw\/09f\/61\/z\/24709.gif)\n\n![placingroomsss.gif](\/\/\/raw\/09f\/61\/z\/2470d.gif)\n\n\n### Hand Crafting the rooms\n\nThis was a fun process b\/c there are 32 rooms total. The first room is always the same but you the player get to lay down the remaining 31 rooms in a randomized order. Here are few of the ones I thought were pretty fun. Note all the enemies and rocks look the same in the photos but in game are randomized. \n\n![unknown!](\/\/\/raw\/09f\/61\/z\/24703.png)\n\n![room2.PNG](\/\/\/raw\/09f\/61\/z\/24710.png)\n\n![room3.PNG](\/\/\/raw\/09f\/61\/z\/24711.png)\n\n![room4.PNG](\/\/\/raw\/09f\/61\/z\/24712.png)\n\n\n### Using a low color palette\n\nThis was probably the most key thing for me since I'm not an artist. I used this awesome color palette https:\/\/lospec.com\/palette-list\/rustic-gb by Kerrie Lake. \n\nSo I was able to make enemies, rocks, and power ups pretty easily. It made life simple and it looked consistent. This was the first time I ever attempted to do anything with randomization and endlessly loop the game so it was a really fun process.\n\nhttps:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/44\/99hearts\n","comments":2,"comments-timestamp":"2019-05-03T17:31:17Z","created":"2019-05-03T05:15:16Z","files":[],"files-timestamp":0,"id":156197,"love":8,"love-timestamp":"2019-05-03T09:56:36Z","meta":[],"modified":"2019-05-03T17:31:17Z","name":"Making My Game 99Hearts was some of the most fun I had","node-timestamp":"2019-05-03T05:57:07Z","parent":145135,"parents":[1,5,9,139254,145135],"path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/44\/99hearts\/making-my-game-99hearts-was-some-of-the-most-fun-i-had","published":"2019-05-03T05:57:07Z","scope":"public","slug":"making-my-game-99hearts-was-some-of-the-most-fun-i-had","subsubtype":"","subtype":"","type":"post","version":470306},"node_metadata":{"n_key":"156197","n_urlkey":"348304","n_parent":"145135","n_path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/44\/99hearts\/making-my-game-99hearts-was-some-of-the-most-fun-i-had","n_slug":"making-my-game-99hearts-was-some","n_type":"post","n_subtype":"","n_subsubtype":"","n_author":"94096","n_created":"1556860516","n_modified":"1556904677","n_version":"470306","n_status":"WAYBACK"},"source_url":"https:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/44\/99hearts\/making-my-game-99hearts-was-some-of-the-most-fun-i-had","text":"# The Idea!\nSo I had the idea from playing a boardgame called Carcassonne where you lay down tiles to build a kingdom.
