Welp, ok, the classic turn off then on should work right?\n\nNope.\n\nAlright, now scratching my head, slightly more worried. 'Maybe a wire came loose?', and I begin searching through the hellish cable wastelands behind my monitor, checking plugs along the way.\n\nNope.\n\nAlright, now really worried, and studying the few lights on the front of my modem , many of which had creased to come alive, there was a slight jolt from the person in front of the desk as he realized it was a telephone cable problem, before slowly but steadily turning towards the thin white cable that was very much the problem. At the middle of it was a thick bundle of blue tape, under of which hid the remains of a not-very-well-done wire splice job done a few months ago.\n\n'Shit'.\n\n***Chapter 2, The dawn of hell***\n\n![1-min.png](\/\/\/raw\/5ee\/c\/z\/247ca.png)\n\n'All right', I say as I hold the 2 still insulated wires in my hand, 'Its just stripping 2 wires, how hard can it be?'. \n\nFirst try, I snip a little too hard with my wire cutters and the whole end comes off, oh well, no biggey, try again.\n\nSecond try, I manage to get the thin pvc layer off, at the cost of all but one strand of copper wiring no thicker than a human hair, try again.\n\nThird try, goddamn snip the entire thing off again, time to strip more thick rubbery protective covering.\n\n4th - 6th try, fail to strip more thick rubbery protective covering. He decided to take more drastic measures.\n\n***Chapter 3, more drastic measures***\n\nHere, we introduce a side character: the lighter.\n\nThin, green, cheap and plasticey. And what was the person, now sweating profusely from the anger and very clearly pissed at the damn 2 pieces of wire he was holding, going to do with it? You guessed it, he was gonna *try* burn the insulation off.\n\nHowever, he had never actually done this before, and so, quite innocently, he lights the flame with 2 flicks of the flint, and places it right under the target.\n\nAnd once again, you guessed it, *it fucking caught fire*\n\nSlightly surprised, I then do the other most innocent thing I did that week, attempt to blow it out, thus sending molten meteorites of melted plastic flying downwards and then onto my knee. Burns, they ain't fun.\n\n2 more tries after that painful lesson and I actually successfully exposed the wires.\n\n***Chapter 4, fucking finally***\n\nAfter splicing the exposed copper together and attempting to wrap them up, not once, but twice with some really shitty electrical tape before giving up and then just using transparent sticky tape. The modem blinked twice. and peace, a word that could not be used to describe my desk, was restored.\n\n*And it only took 3 hours.*\n\nWhich leaves us to now.
