It's [been a while](https:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/42\/crash-the-party) since my last Ludum Dare and [even longer](http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-35\/?action=preview&uid=20438) since I have made a Ludum Dare game that I was proud of. \n\nSince my last \"successful\" ludum dare game, I've completed undergrad, started my first full time developer job, [published my first conference paper](https:\/\/link.springer.com\/chapter\/10.1007\/978-3-030-17798-0_34), and got to be help [design and develop a real educational game](https:\/\/github.com\/nicklytle\/DataStructuresEdGame) with real life graduate students and did a real life study with real data that we analyzed and really [presented about](https:\/\/www.kevinprehn.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2019-08\/Kevin_SRCA_REU_presentation_REDACTED_DATA.pdf).\n\nLooking back (and looking forward) I feel like my older games were kinda ... bad. I don't know how to make an open source project sustainable and I lost drive for working on it, so the educational game also kinda pittered out once we not longer could devote all our time to it. While I have gained experience in the world of both development and academic stuff, none of it matters unless I actually sit down and MAKE something useful.\n\nAfter being exposed to the fancy academic world with conference names like \"\"[FDG](http:\/\/fdg2019.org\/)\"\", \"\"[ICCE](http:\/\/ilt.nutn.edu.tw\/icce2019\/)\"\", and \"\"[SIGCSE](http:\/\/sigcse2019.sigcse.org\/)\"\" and statistics about the state of CS education in United States, I would like to approach this Ludum Dare with the goal of making an educational game that could be used as a resource in learning [something with Math or CS](https:\/\/k12cs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/K%E2%80%9312-CS-Framework-Statements-Concepts-View-Abridged.pdf).\n\nI want academia to be somewhere in my future, and I usually learn the most in the shortest amount of time doing game jams like Ludum Dare - so why not use this Ludum Dare to work on an educational game? My goals for myself include:\n\n1. Have the game be a potential resource to teach SOMETHING with CS\/Math\n2. Have at least 1 paper I can point to to show the design as SOME basis in theory\n3.
