I'm in Ludum Dare 45

A colleague said to me today that I always do game jams. But the only one I do is Ludum Dare, and I haven't done that since I did a Pacman-themed rhythm based roguelike in Ludum Dare 41. But now the stars have aligned and will be able to spend the whole weekend on this.

Me and @tommislav will be at the Resolution Games office. (If you're nice and wants somewhere to work on your game, let me know and you can join us!)

This time I take the compo as an opportunity to learn things and don't expect to produce a very polished game. I won't be playing it safe when it comes to technology. I'll use an engine and a language I haven't done anything significant in.

Tools

The tools I'll (probably) use are:

  • Game engine: ggez
  • Programming language: Rust
  • Bitmap editing: Gimp
  • Mesh editing: Blender
  • Music: FL Studio
  • Audio recording: Zoom H2n portable recorder
  • Audio editing: Audacity
  • Computers: Desktop PC running Windows, laptop running Linux Mint
  • Version control: Git and Github
  • Continuous integration: Buildkite and/or Travis (testing them right now)

I've created a repo on Github with some scaffolding for the project. I've even set up systems for continuous builds from that repo just to experiment a bit with that too.

Wish me luck! And I wish you luck too!

But above all, have fun!
