The Art of Wayward

The art direction for Wayward was pretty straight forward. It was knot tied up in extraneous "details" the way it can be sometimes...

Imagine a path: What it means to go straight, to turn, to ignore direction, to be lost.

When you know which way you want to go, the movements feel less forced - almost involuntary. But feeling lost is a totally manual process. There is no light to tell you where to go. It is an oscillation between manual and auto pilot, conscious and subconscious, trying to find the flow and submitting to it once it takes hold. Sometimes we don't know where this flow will take us but it's comforting to know we could take our hands off the wheel if we wanted to.

The feeling of being at home is a good thing. The feeling of being lost is also a good thing. Whichever way you choose to wander is fine, because moving forward is always progress.
