Some thoughts after the jam
This was my first jam, and the first game I ever published. The results are below.
Tbh at first I was kind of disappointed in the results. I was hoping for at least a top 500 overall ranking, and while 500 was a bit high 1180 was a bit out of my expectations. I was also expecting higher rankings in humour and mood, since humour was an integral part of the game and my impression was that a lot of games either opted out of the humour category or didn't really have humour as a thing in their game. Also, even though there were close to no sound effects in the game I hoped the harsh white lighting and text would create at least a decent mood.
But then again maybe my expectations were a bit too high, especially for my first jam: - Being my first jam, I focused a lot more on functionality than polish, so in the end most of the game functioned as I wanted, but a lot of stuff like sound effects got left out because there was not enough time. - I was extremely inexperienced (6 months of coding, 4 months of Unity), going up against more experienced devs - I was working alone, going up against teams of people (maybe the Compo category would have been better?)
Still, ratings aren't everything, and I think I learnt a lot from this game jam, and I look forward to LD49 which I can hopefully participate in.
