Jam or Compo?
I wanted to join the compo, but I'm already 3 hours in and only managed to make 3 sprites so far. I could abandon animations, and just have the main character "bounce", but I'm already losing a lot of time in assets alone.
So the idea was thus:
"Her Name is Luna" A 2D topdown puzzler Story: We see a small montage of the MC enjoying his life with Luna. Suddenly, a large '6:00' appears in the world and they get separated. Player then must complete puzzles to find Luna as the world falls apart. Leave little story tidbits per level so players realise he's actually in a dream, and completing levels stops him from waking up, till he ends up back with Luna."
This idea is solid and can be done within the time, though with my limited experience, I don't think I can afford to spend the time on building sprites. Do I then switch to the compo? This is my first jam, so I don't really know much about time allocation for things.
I think I have an idea for another game, that doesn't need transitions or anything, and would be simpler to build, where you are in a factory and everything is falling apart, and you have to fix it. Meanwhile new machines keep getting added. No win condition, but just try to get the highest score. I could then spend longer on sprites, as It's all one screen and a simpler mechanic, and use inheritance on the machine scripts for the most part. I can also worry less on sprites, as I just have to build each new machine sprite at later points, so if I'm low on time, I can just call it there.
Please, any input would be greatly appreciated.
