First day of organised chaos

I was worried about getting a workable idea at first. I came into this jam planning to do a plat-former but couldn’t think of a gimmick I could implement. So, after some thought I got my current idea.

I was going with resource management/placement game, even if it meant learning a control system I’ve not practiced yet. After taking a break to handle parental duties, I realised I was actually planning out a board game. So why not make it look like one!

Here’s a shot of some of the parts, I might need to adjust the colours but that’s an “if I get time” task.

As for scripts I’ve got the piece movement and the skeleton of the scoring system. Game rules now planned out (I removed some of the more complex ideas to keep in the time-frame).

Tomorrow I won’t get too much time to work on it, with a kids’ party to go to and a promise to take my daughter swimming. But I hope to at least finish of the scoring system and start the scripts for the basic enemy system using the Pandemic and Battlestar Galactica board games as a guide.

Good thing I’m going for the Jam instead of Compo. I’m going to need the extra day.

Hope you are all going on track and not hitting too many troublesome code (some has to happen or it wouldn’t be Ludum Dare).
