My supplemental challenges
Every time I participate, I try to set challenges for myself beyond just making the game and following the theme.
Here are a few I tried but I need to improve on:
Platformer controls I've made platformers but with pretty floaty and unintuitive controls. I know I can do better.
Unity's new input system I tried this with some projects and made some mistakes, but I think I have it figured out so far.
Local multiplayer I made a turned-based board game that could be played in single or 2-player mode (or you can just watch the computer play against itself).
Artificial Intelligence that turned-based board game did have computer opponents, but the strategy was very basic. I have ideas of how I could have improved it.
And here's some that I haven't tried yet, but will when I can (maybe in this jam?):
3D animations I've barely made any 3D models, while advancing my skills with that I'd like to do some animation as well.
Online multiplayer Making a local multiplayer was fun, even if barely anyone played it that way. I'd like to make a game with some online interaction.
Level generato I've almost pulled this one off before, so maybe I'll do this one soon.
Online achievement system Newgrounds' has a system for this, I think I'll give it a go with this jam
Online leaderboards Again, using Newgrounds' system.
Analytics Unity has a system to track analytics, but I've never put them to the test. I'd like to learn how these can help me make better games.
Memorable characters I'd like to have games with unique, reusable characters. I want my fellow jammers to actually recognize them as we particpated over time. Usually the themes require me to be a bit more generic.
Are you thinking of giving yourselves any challenges during this jam?
