{"author_name":"SledKnight","cat":"LD #32","comments":[],"epoch":1430349960,"likes":1,"metadata":{"p_key":"17550","p_author":"SledKnight","p_authorkey":"52123","p_urlkey":"52854","p_title":"Cheesy Defender \u2013 Postmortem Part II","p_cat":"LD #32","p_event":"LD32","p_time":"1430349960","p_likes":"1","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"52123","us_name":"SledKnight","us_username":"sledknight","event_start":"1429228800","event_key":"27","event_name":"LD32"},"text":"<p><strong>Previously<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/ldpm-cd.gif\"><img class=\" size-full wp-image-462907 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/ldpm-cd.gif\" alt=\"ldpm-cd\" width=\"480\" height=\"285\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n <p>On the first postmortem, <a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/2015\/04\/24\/cheesy-defender-postmortem\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, I focused more on my experience and the process. \u00a0While I offered a general overview of my feelings about the project, I didn&#8217;t delve into the specifics of what I felt worked, and what didn&#8217;t. \u00a0This is just a quick refresher to do just that.<\/p>\n <p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n <p><strong>The Good<\/strong><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>I love the rat animations. \u00a0I feel they portray the scurrying nature of the animal, especially in the final few levels.<\/li>\n <li>The particle effects work reasonably well, although I do feel they need a lot of tweaking.<\/li>\n <li>The sound effects fit the humorous concept of the game, even if low quality, and have garnered the most positive feedback.<\/li>\n <li>For art, I stuck to\u00a0edited\u00a0photography and minimal tablet drawing, and felt it saved me a lot of time to spend\u00a0elsewhere.<\/li>\n <li>Cheese bits. \u00a0I love that I got to include a couple of cheese bits on the ground for the rats to carry off.<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n <p><strong>The Bad<\/strong><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>The\u00a0levels increase in difficulty fairly well, but in retrospect I would have set per-level time to 15 seconds, just to hit the climax\u00a0a little faster (2.5 minutes, instead of almost 3.5).<\/li>\n <li>I wish I&#8217;d found\u00a0time to throw in some minimal music.<\/li>\n <li>While I have the airplane mechanic near what I wanted (you don&#8217;t click where you want to target, you have to lead it, simulating the difficulty in aiming a paper airplane), it&#8217;s been the most complained aspect. \u00a0I would probably revisit\u00a0that to see how I could improve the player expectation while still offering a mandatory practice curve.<\/li>\n <li>There are a few minor physics glitches that I didn&#8217;t have time to debug.<\/li>\n <li>The UI is awful. \u00a0I had to have something to give the player feedback, but never managed to revisit\u00a0and make it something other than minimalist text.<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n <p>Well, thanks for reading! \u00a0It was a great experience. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-32\/?action=preview&amp;uid=52123\" target=\"_blank\">Please play and rate!<\/a><\/p>","time":"April 29th, 2015 6:26 pm","title":"Cheesy Defender \u2013 Postmortem Part II"}
