So this is my first time writing a game for ludum dare. It’s also my first time in a long time using HTML Canvases to draw in two dimensions.<\/p>\n

After I woke up three hours later than planned I pretty quickly had my game idea pinned down: it’ll be some sort of 2D puzzler, where you can fire a death wave, which will kill all enemies. Except those behind special walls, that protect them from the wave.<\/p>\n

After breakfast I started building basic game stuff, players and enemies and walls and collisions and all that goodness. After dinner I was finished with the rudimentary basics, so I started with adding an animation for the death blast\/wave\/whatever-I’ll-end-up-calling-it. And then I learned that you have to manually invert in canvases. So I did that. It’s a bit slower than I hoped, but it works. Then I added the death-proof walls. Which turned out to be the biggest challenge as of yet, because I had to do line tracing to determine, if an enemy was save or not. If I was a bit less tired, I probably wouldn’t have screwed up the algorythm that bad, but it works now, so where’s the problem… Finally I added shadows for those special walls, so you can visually see, when an enemy is safe(-ish). Which is the messiest part of my code. Due to me, being tired and not wanting to think about some math problems. But again, it works now, so where’s the problem… Before I go to bed a GIF of the full content of my game:<\/p>\n
