While trying to figure out how the game will play, I doodled a little hedgehog on a paper next to my laptop. After a few moments I thought to myself - this is a cute drawing, a game like that could be adorable.\n\n![IMG-20231001-WA0013.jpg](\/\/\/raw\/cd5\/84\/z\/5fcb1.jpg)\n\nSo, why wouldn't it look like that? And so, we began experimenting. The first part was to figure out the tools for the job. Since I always made pixel art, I didn't even know where to start.\n\n\nAt first we talked about drawing on paper and digitising it, but that proved to require better equipment then what I had.\nThen we looked at Android apps that work with my stylus, and couldn't find one that has all the features required to animated for a game.\n\n![ezgif-2-b6cfc0cbbe.gif](\/\/\/raw\/cd5\/84\/z\/5fcb4.gif)\n\nAt the end, we used Krita, and I drew using my touch-bar. Not ideal, but did the job. We agreed on a 1-bit style (a fancy way of saying 2 colours), and doodly animations that I achieved by drawing the same sprite over and over again.\n\n\nEven though it was my first time making a game with line-art, I'm pretty proud of the results.\n\nAnd now, for the next challenge.\n\n\n\n# [Play Prickle now in your browser](https:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/54\/prickle)","comments":2,"comments-timestamp":"2023-10-17T00:24:17Z","created":"2023-10-16T20:25:11Z","files":[],"files-timestamp":0,"id":382344,"love":6,"love-timestamp":"2023-10-17T06:54:29Z","meta":[],"modified":"2023-10-17T06:54:29Z","name":"Changing our artstyle!","node-timestamp":"2023-10-16T20:25:52Z","parent":371509,"parents":[1,5,9,371459,371509],"path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/54\/prickle\/changing-our-artstyle","published":"2023-10-16T20:25:52Z","scope":"public","slug":"changing-our-artstyle","subsubtype":"","subtype":"","type":"post","version":1191077},"node_metadata":{"n_key":"382344","n_urlkey":"438595","n_parent":"371509","n_path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/54\/prickle\/changing-our-artstyle","n_slug":"changing-our-artstyle","n_type":"post","n_subtype":"","n_subsubtype":"","n_author":"296412","n_created":"1697487911","n_modified":"1697525669","n_version":"1191077","n_status":"WAYBACK"},"source_url":"https:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/54\/prickle\/changing-our-artstyle","text":"\n# [Play Prickle now in your browser](https:\/\/ldjam.com\/events\/ludum-dare\/54\/prickle)\n\n\nWell, first thing first, let's get this out of the way - I'm NOT a professional artist.\n\nJust about 3 years ago, I started doodling some pixel art, just so I would have some basic art for my games.\n\n![yc5ZED.png](\/\/\/raw\/cd5\/84\/z\/5fcae.png)\n\nSo when I joined the Sunbird Studio team, every time we started a game, my go-to was to pixelate everything.\n\n\nThis time, something went a bit differently.
