Great job everyone! My thoughts on this experience

Good day everyone, I wanted to share my experience during this game jam. I had not participated in a jam in about a decade. During that time I have been working as a developer in various studios where I got very used to working with a team full of people from different disciplines. Due to this I wasn't used to build a game on my own, and I sadly was not able to finish in time.

My biggest issue was the fact that I wasted a lot of time on topics that were not relevant in the current context, such as:

  1. Best coding practices - The most important thing is that your features work, period, you can come back later and optimize or organize your code, but one should not waste time making sure everything is up to a certain standard.
  2. Polishing details - It's ok if your assets don't have those fancy particle effects, or if your textures look like MS Paint scribbles, as long as they can be distinguished in-game that is more than enough.
  3. Game design - Keeping the scope relatively small is crucial. A small idea may lead to various features, so one should only implement those that will allow you to finish your main game loop.

I know the aforementioned points may be obvious to a lot of people, but maybe there are others out there like me who weren't able to finish because they also fell into similar rabbit holes. As always "live and learn", I had a lot of fun, and I want to congratulate every single person that published their games, great work!

See you all in the next one!
