I would join the Jam if your are worried about using textures you didn’t make. When I make textures I often work off a base image and use the rubber stamp tool. I’m planning on using Unity, Blender, Gimp, Audacity, and sfxr.

I have a question about the rules. Since I’m going to be working in 3D, I’m going to need textures to make materials. Normally, I get textures from the internet (mainly cgtextures.com). Am I allowed to do that for the compo? Or if I join the Jam, would I need to opt-out of the Graphics rankings?

For the most part, I think this would fall under the “derivative works” exception, but the following situation seem deep in the grey area:

Suppose I want a dirt texture to use as the ground. I go to cgtextures, find a tileable dirt texture, download it, and use it for my dirt material. Is this ok to do and still stay in the Graphics rankings?

Thanks in advanced for any feedback here!

April 16th, 2015 5:13 pm
I’m in, with a question!"}
